Lloris would be too much of a fanny on, couldn't be arsed dealing with the deal dragging on all summer while Levy refuses to budge from his 250 million quid valuation. IF De Gea does leave, and IF Valdes gets fully fit, then I'd say we may as well just stick with him for a few seasons. (Said before that I never really rated Valdes, but he must have something going for him to have been Barca's number one for so long so I suppose I'll give him the benefit of the doubt). Levy can fuck himself - I hope we never stoop to sign anyone from Spuds again Valdes is world class and would be a great replacement but needs to prove his fitness (so needs to play the odd game) - Shaggy will sign a new deal but still leave in 18 months but at least we'll get a good bit of cash for him or use him to get Ronnie back

Well winning the World Cup and three European Cups weren't flukes, regardless of how good the rest of his teams were.
I mean, he won goalkeeper of the year in Spain twice, too.

Pepe Reina has a World Cup, and won a whole bunch of Golden Glove things in the Premier League end of season awards.
Kleberson won the World Cup.
Anderson has a European Cup winners medal.
I'm not saying the guy is hopeless or anything, just have never rated him as anything above 'Good top level'. Warranted spot at one of the big clubs, but not irreplaceable.

I have to admit, I thought the same. However, in his last couple of years at Barca he seemed to come on hugely and was really good. The major issue will be how he deals with the aerial stuff in England. That could be a real problem as he's not particularly big I think?

His reflexes are up there, whilst he's got pretty damn good feet too.
Not saying he'd be able to fill De Gea's (slightly smaller) boots, but he's probably better than Lindegaard as a backup.
Amazed Anders is still here, surely he wants to play?

As long as he is a backup and not lined up successor, I'm delighted with the whole deal. Of course a better backup than Anders.
It's just the possible subtext I don't like.

Valdes is 33, these should be his peak years. It's a lot harder to drastically improve areas of your game the older you are.

Well Mendes says he isn't going anywhere just yet...
"He has one year left on his contract and I think that he will stay in Manchester," said the 49-year-old Mendes, who is reported to have brokered more than £1bn worth of transfers. "The player will decide, but he's happy there, at the moment."

Mendes: 'I am negotiating with Manchester United De Gea's contract renewal. It is not true that he has a deal with Real Madrid. I'm negotiating his extension with Manchester United. We're holding talks and at this moment it seems he could continue with United, but we haven't signed anything yet.'
