The club has to shoulder some blame for leaving his contract get so close to the end. Should have got him tied up to a new one before Madrid came calling. I don’t know about that. I’ve been very harsh on Ed (as we all have justifiably) but I don’t think he’s a moron and he looks as if he’s learning. No way is he going to allow this to get so far down the road unless the vibes were positive coming out of De Gea’s camp. I think we had the Moyes clusterfuck and that gave them the wriggle room of needing to wait and see, have to be sure where the club was going, we need to strenghten blah blah blah. Even if he wanted out he should have signed the new contract and agreed a release clause. Totally this... I loved the guy while he was here but am so pissed off at the way he has basically given us two fingers and walked out for a pittance... As has been said, not so much the money as the principle of the thing...fucking Real Madrid need to be taught a lesson but it ain't going to happen this time... Makes me worry now every time we sign a Spanish player...

My feeling for months was that he's off, I still feel that'll be the case.
That "injury" nearing the end of the campaign was beyond suspicious.

'Spain's ABC said this morning that Man United had asked for €35m for De Gea but Real Madrid didn't want to pay more than €25m.' THAT'S WHAT WE PAID FOR THE CUNT WHEN HE WAS 20!!!!!! Honestly, keep him for a year and let him go for free. Madrid can fuck off. If we keep him for the year and don't pay him the rediculous sum of 280,000 EURO a week then we will recoup a lot of that money just on wages, so there is a good argument for that, but he would be crazy not to sign that contract if we refuse to sell to Madrid. > The reason is he would be putting himself at risk and any halfwit agent shouldn't let that happen. I.E. If he had an injury during the season and his contract was up Madrid copuld say fuck off and so could we. That's the only thing worrying Dave at the moment and his agents, so our hand is not that bad. If we refuse to sell for less than 35 he ends up losing a lot of money in that year and holds the risk of injury But I say sell him for 30-35 and get Czech for 10 use the balance on other players. If we strengthen with good defenders and a DM like Schneiderlin we are less likely to rely on a keeper anyway and Czech is world class! Valdes showed some amazing ability also in the game against Hull. It's a fucking shame we can't keep a top (Spanish or Portuguese player without those cunts coming in for them, but we have options and the problem for us this year has been in attack surprisingly.

would love to see us engage barca and offer them the chance for £15m.
for DDG it should be the same outcome, spain #1, lots of cash and a move home to spain with the added bonus of winning league titles and maybe a CL. for us we get to f*ck madrid over by simultaneously show them that the money is nothing, denying them a player they want AND strengthening their direct rivals, possibly ensuring another 5-6 years without a la liga title.

Just to be clear, if we keep him for another year, we play him. Even if he doesn't like it professional pride will take over and he'll contribute. Ronaldo in 08-09 started off like a baby but ended up contributing in a major way to a very successful season. I read your other post wrong when I mentioned you in mine. I still say make an example of him if we don't sell, if you have ambitions of Madrid, don't bother coming here.

Or a Portuguese player, or an English player, or a Dutch player, or an Argentinian player - it's not the nationality, it's the global perception that they are the biggest and best in the whole wide world.

£40m for a goalkeeper with one year left on his contract? Let's be realistic. Anything above £30m would be a decent bit of work by Woodward, De Gea isn't the best goalkeeper in the World right now. Ah yeah I forgot he had one year left on his deal. That's a pain in the arse. It's so obvious these things are done a year or two before they're last year of contract. I think thats what winds me up so much. Why do we keep getting players who eventually want to play in Spain FFS.

Should have got him tied up to a new one before Madrid came calling. to be fair SET i think we are missing the bigger picture a bit. i believe Mendes has a lot to do with this too. our two best players (represented by Mendes) supposedly want to leave, and this just happens to be when we decided against sending a ton of cash Mendes' way for Falcao. the man has a lot of power in the game and can be a king maker if he wished, or cause a lot of disruption at a team should he choose to also.

Let's offer Dave to Barcelona and ask for Ter Stegen in return.

£30m for a keeper with a year left that is 50/50 to flop there given he'll have absolutely no protection if he messes up, in a team managed by the waiter? Not a bad deal. Seal it asap and bring in Leno, no excuses regarding a fee, we're loaded. Cheers Dave, thanks for, well, not much - the cash? Helping us get back into Europe? Not turning out shit? I cannot fathom a kid coming through the ranks at, say Everton, having a dream to play for Liverpool. To hell with the dream-move malarkey. Leno has a €18m buyout clause in his contract according to Bild. No Brainer in my book
