berbatov was defo given a chance, i mean he was straight in the side, first choice with rooney, tevez was out. he wasn't a kid, he'd played premiership football - the opportunity was there for him to nail his spot and become a fixture for us. and he was good enough.
bestie was right in older threads though when he talked about the players around him letting berba down on a frustratingly regular basis. berba and nani in particular never looked to me like they were on any sort of wavelength and i felt that with certain other players too. i lost count of the times berba found space in the box and a simple and obvious ball to his feet would have given berba a chance he was very unlikely to fluff.

You touched on the Berba-Nani thing there, something I've noticed from the moment Berba signed and Nani started getting more game time due to Ronaldo leaving. They're constantly at each others throats when playing together, not sure if anyone ever noticed it? Nani never seems to pick him and and Berba rightly so sometimes gets very frustrated at the lack of service into him from Nani, not just any service but QUALITY service. Can only think that the service from Young would have been better benefitted by Berbatov but I guess we'll never know now!

Some fans hated him other fans love him, one thing is for sure he'll be one of the mist debated signings Fergie has ever made.
He's never really lived up to his hype or price tag, I had huge expectation for him when he signed for us so did the rest of the world. At times he showed flashes of it be never really found consistency.
He did tell citeh to fuck off!

In theory he was an excellent signing, but he's just never really paid off. Quality at times, and a few brilliant memories, but not enough to justify the price tag.
Should really have flogged him last year. In fact, Fergie probably would have had he known for sure how WElbeck would cope.

one thing that'll never sit comfortably with me was him being left out of the CL final squad last year
1. he didn't deserve to be dropped 2. one of Fergusons poorer decisions IMO as it became increasingly obvious as the game progressed that berba was the one player who the ball would stick to in the barca half and he might have caused them a few problems
gutted it's not worked out as we all wanted now i want to see him rip it up for another good side.

What are the chances of the fans drowning out Fergies end of season speech with a "Fergie Fergie Sign him up" chant for the Berb

How much do you guys think we'll get for Berba this summer?! My mate reckons 10-12m MAX whereas I reckon we'l get in the region of £19-20m.

Edit I wouldnt be surprised to see him as part of any possible move for Kagawa.

What is your thought process that we'd get 20mill for a 'unwanted' 31 year old with 1 year on his deal?
The only possible way I see that happening is if one of those Chinese clubs with the silly money come in for him. More likely though your mate is right.

Got to say, I think your living in a dreamworld renemeulensteen!
Nowhere near that amount. Consider his age and contract situation.
Areba is probably warmer.

Man, fair do's, just such a shame to see our top goalscorer for last season leave for that little. Big shame.
If it's in a swap deal for a bit of quality coming our way im all for it.

Reports say we value him at 8m quid. Sir Alex says we won't sell him for anything below our estimate. That's him gone for 4m then.

Fair point about the Dortmund connection.
As much as I'd like Berba to stay, I'd be pleased to see him sign for the German champions (and Kagawa arrive here, of course). The man deserves a top club.
