Lazio could offer Dimitar Berbatov an escape route as he looks to leave Manchester United this summer. The Bulgarian has endured a mixed time at Old Trafford following his £30.75m move from Tottenham in 2008 and is likely to be allowed to go this summer. And Corriere Dello Sport claim Lazio are preparing a bid for the 31-year-old. The Italian newspaper report that Claudio Lotito, the president of the Rome-based club, has already met with Emil Dantchev, Berbatov's agent, to discuss the move. And Lazio are now preparing a summer bid as they attempt to persuade Sir Alex Ferguson to sell a player who has made just five Premier League starts so far this season. www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/120511/lazio-plot-move-man-united-outcast-171852

Berba being linked with Barca now as a cut price alternative to Van Persie. Swap deal with David Villa would do nicely!

He's probably the only member of our squad who'd be able to feel comfortable, skill-wise, in that Barca team.
I was following a pretty decent (and realistic) blog the other day that were convinced we'd go for David Villa this summer, for a number of reasons (none of which I can remember right now).
For 20/22mill and Berba, I'd be tempted. Oldish, but he's still so quick and he's a brilliant player.

Villa had the option of moving to us when we sold Ronaldo. He didn't. Doesn't want to leave Spain. So he won't move now either. Also, Barca wouldn't want to sell him. As for Berba, don't think he'd get enough playing time there. Would be a bad move. Would rather see him move to Germany or Italy.

Liverpool are reportedly considering making a move for out of favour Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov. Kenny Dalglish is looking to beef up his Anfield attacking options but still has faith in Andy Carroll to deliver the goods in the long term and is therefore looking for an experienced back-up options with a proven Premier League record and sees a move for the Bulgarian international as a viable option. The 31 year old Man United forward has made just five Premier League starts this season, despite last term finishing as the top joint top scorer in the top tier. Despite the lack of playing time there is no doubting that the former Tottenham man is still in a rich vein of form, notching up nine goals in eleven starts in all competitions. Berbatov has been linked with a number of clubs on the continent, most notably Lazio and his former side Bayer Leverkusen, but having spent the past six years in England he is apparently hoping to be thrown a Premier League lifeline but does not wish to continue to warm the bench at Man United, a fact echoed by Sir Alex Ferguson who has admitted that he may well lose the talented forward. Dalglish has seen his Liverpool side struggle for goals this term, managing just 47 goals in 37 Premier League games to date, the same total as relegated Blackburn Rovers and now the Scot is looking at possible additions to help add strength in depth up front. The Merseyside club has depended a great deal on Uruguayan Luis Suarez for both goals and assists and though Carroll has started to string together a series of improved performances there is still a need to bring in alternatives, especially as both Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez are strongly linked with exits this summer. Though clearly Man United and Liverpool are arch rivals Old Trafford supporters could hardly blame Berbatov for looking at a move to a club where first team chances would be more forthcoming and likewise fans of the Anfield side will surely welcome the addition of a player of his calibre. A move for Dimitar Berbatov would also prove inexpensive with the forward having just over a year left on his current contract, which was extended merely so that Man United wouldn’t lose a player who cost the club £30.75m for nothing. An offer in the region of £3-5m would probably suffice. www.caughtoffside.com/2012/05/12/liverpool-to-offer-man-united-forward-dimitar-berbatov-premier-league-lifeline/Hasnt Berba suffered enough!

I do remember us being the only team he'd sign for in England but said if Barca came in for him then he couldn't turn that down so no surprise he didn't come to England. Could be time for him now, I did read a piece somewhere to say that we'd probably go back in for him should he become available.

Berbatov has the technical ability to be a perfect fit for Barca, but I'd hate to see him there. And I would doubt (and hope not!) Berbs would move to the Scousers.

Things may change under Villanova but Villa was not happy playing second fiddle to Messi and apparently wants out according to that windbag Ballague(Revisita la liga). I cant see him being happy playing a similar role to Rooney, though it could mean Rooney back to his best position(off the striker) and Kagawa(fingers crossed) being deployed deeper.

If we were to say buy Villa, it would mean less time for DW and Chico wouldn't it. I mean Villa ain't gonna be the one wanting to warm the bench

There is NO WAY the Liverpool rumour has any truth to it. AT ALL.
I just won't have it.
