I'd play Kagawa and Carrick together. Sure. Carrick can play in the big games or when we need to slow things a bit and hold possession. But with SAF stating emphasis on Speed and quick Football, i just do'nt see carrick fitting into that sort of game play. Believe me i would be glad if proven wrong.

Carrick/Martinez**/Pogba -- Cleverley/Kagawa* Valencia/Kagawa*/Nani -- Rooney -- Kagawa*/Young/Nani Welbeck
Bench: Goalie, defender, Pogba, Hernandez, three of the other four not selected in the starting XI *If we do actually go get him. **Martinez is the ideal, but Gundogen or Strootman would satisfy most of us I reckon. Now that gentlemen, is what I call options for an attacking line-up. To think of the strength we'd have on the bench to change a game not quite going our way, or if we needed to close a tight game out. *Shivers with fanciful anticipation.* Except for Carrick and Martinez, I've written the options in order of preference, from left to right. Obviously if Kagawa is left-side, then Nani is second choice to Tony V. If we really wanted to fuck with teams we could always have Young, Kagawa, and Nani all playing, and all inter-changing, with Rooney up front. Tiote? Not sure he'd would be available IMO if Newcastle get 4th though. strootman maybe

Yeah, no chance Tiote, or for that matter, any Newcastle player, is moving if they get 4th. Also, that idea of having Carrick sit in deep with Clevers and Kagawa in front of him would mean that we don't need a Tiote or a Strootman. And I definitely think we do. Carrick will have to be sped up 2X

Which would mean we would have to wish for the following. Newcastle win over shitty and Newcastle finish 4th but chelsea win the Championship against Bayern and hence players are available. or Newcastle lose to shitty and don't finish 4th and players are available. Either one of them happening is really like of spear thru hearts IMO

Or Newcastle beat City, and Spurs win their two games to finish 4th ahead of the Toon. Although, if our getting a chance in the title race means Newcastle getting into Europe and us not being able to buy Tiote, I'll take it. There are other options for players, there aren't for who wins the League!
EDIT: I also would have thought there were far more pleasant prospects to talk about in my post than whether or not we could get Cheick Tiote if Newcastle qualify for the European Cup!

Agreed , i guess there is Thiago, Sahin and Martinez to look forward to. can't make much of Strootman as i haven't seen much of him.

So play him and let him prove it. he's the most over-hyped player since i joined this board. now that's not me saying he's no good. he looks like he has a bit about him and i think he has a chance. but when i keep seeing his name in these fantasy XI's ahead of carrick i think why? he's done nothing to suggest he should be in the side ahead of carrick, even more so on the back of a very good season from carrick

EDIT: Also, at least in my fantasy team, Cleverley plays alongside Carrick, not instead of him. I agree that Carrick should be automatic starter for us, he's a class player. OT: Haven't heard the Kagawa rumour in a couple of days. Anyone found anything more on it?

I much prefer Carrick in a midfield three than in a two. His lack of mobility is an issue in a two and if you were to pair him with a Kagawa you would have no one actually in the middle of the park - Carrick would be sat in front of the back four and Kagawa (based on the position he plays at Dortmund) would be sat behind the forwards.

Carrick's been good this season, good not gr8, IMO i still feel he loses the ball when under pressure and at 30 he aint gonna be able to match up to fast speedy ball play. He has to be used sparingly or a as a sub to control when we are in control.

Oi...none of that. El Inzaghi is untouchable in my eyes. On Carrick, I've changed my tune on him this season. He's had enough moments of fluidity this year to make me think he's become a victim of tactical ineptitude and has been told to sit back and move the ball along. I recall him getting forward and being involved in and around the box during the Quiroz era, and that was when we were the fastest, most feared attacking side in the world.

i accepted ages ago that carrick can be overly casual at times and it costs him the ball. that's the downside to him but as best said he's a class act and he is worth his place in the side.
edit - i think he has been breaking forward more this seasonn WK.

if Carrick breaks forward and kagawa will always look to attack then we will have no ball winners. Also if carrick is told to sit back in front of the defense , he will basically pass the ball back or side and that ain't any use. But if he is to be used then our formation would have to change to 4-1-3-2 or a 4-1-4-1 i suppose with jones in CM rather than as CB/FB Can't believe what a difference CQ made with our team, though (love to have him back).

He absolutely has, which has caused me to change my tune. When he's bombed forward he hasn't looked out of place, that goal at QPR being a prime example, or that rocket shot against the post against...Villa or was it QPR again?!? I think that part of his game has been coached out of him, partly by stone-age tactics and partly because he's had to compensate for the "midfielders" beside him.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa says he will join Manchester United in the summer.
The Japan international has long been touted as a potential arrival from the German champions and his reputation has been enhanced by an impressive season in the Bundesliga.
It now looks like the 23-year-old will be plying his trade in England.
"May 12 will be my last game for Dortmund and then I will start a new chapter in Manchester United," Kagawa told TV Osaka.
Again, United have opted not to respond about the midfielder, who has scored an impressive 28 goals in 69 appearances in his two years with Dortmund, although that may be more to do with club policy, given the deal cannot go through until after the season is over anyway.www.sportinglife.com/football/premiership/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/12/05/05/manual_143951.htmlHmm. Not sure about the source, but there is a quote in there. Can't get clearer than that really.
