New big name signing on its way? I don't see anyone already in our squad worthy of no.7. Then again, it was last seen on Owen's back. Sorry has Valencia not done enough for you to warrant the number 7? NO!

Tony V is a modern day, much larger version of Steve Coppell, who was my first ever Utd hero. He also wore the no 7 jersey with much distinction. Tony would be very much a rightful heir in my opinion.

Being offered the Number 7 says to me we're done for business in the attacking front?

Sorry has Valencia not done enough for you to warrant the number 7? I like him enough to have his name on the back of my shirt. But the no.7 is a different issue altogether. I think a United no.7 should possess more than just great footballing ability. So sorry, not for me.

I think the number #7 thing has been lost in translation a little bit. Seems he was asked what number he would prefer and was told that nothing would be decided until Ferguson was back, so he said if it can be taken into consideration, i'd rather not have no #7. I don't think he was offered it.... but it makes for favourable headlines apparently!
Also think that since Ronaldo had it and became the best in the world its become near impossible for many players to have it and own it properly. That was probably the purpose of Owen having it, almost to devalue the shirt from the expectation that fans hold it in.

Mmm I dont think so, he was offered the number 7 shirt and said he wanted a number with personal meaning. Pretty clear cut if you're to believe almost every news outlet running it.

Nah people write what they can get away with which makes headlines mate. I'm sure I don't need to tell you how many millions of pages of ink have been wasted falsely linking us to players this summer, the Telegraph also broke the news that we'd signed Gaitan This is the quote people are basing it on- "I don't know which numbers are free," Kagawa coyly told reporters. "I gave them my requests, but they aren't as important a number [as No. 7]" He requested other numbers mate, not asking for a shirt number is not the same as being offered it and declining it!

I initially thought the same thing SS1, he never directly declined it as he wasn't offered it.
