Over 200 grand a week for an injury prone player. Let's hope it's worth it . Local lad Welbeck being pushed down the pecking order that's modern football for you .

Welbeck will still feature strongly in the united line up, hes a striker for the future. He wont be dropped even with RVP arriving. Hell get his fair share of games theres no doubt about that.

Yeah bit of a silly comment tbh. How can you doubt Ferguson's ability to rotate a squad.

Over 200 grand a week for an injury prone player. There seems to be just this huge emphasis that he's injury prone and over the hill. Believe me if Van Persie went to either City, Real or somewhere else, you wouldn't hear any mention of either of those opinions. As i was alluding to this morning, we brought in Berba and i think Eric at 27, Dwight Yorke arrived at 28, Sheringham, Henrik Larsson etc. This emphasis on age is effectively a myth. If we end up winning another couple of titles and Champions Leagues during the four years of Van Persie's contract, we won't give a flying fuck how old the guy is. What you can't score goals because you're 29? No, not allowed. Do me a favour! As regards injuries, he hasn't scored 111 club goals lying on a treatment table. World Class Striker.

OK, it's happened. Watched the press conference and the interview with MUTV, watched highlights of him. And now I've fallen in love again.

Stam. Van Nistelrooy. Van Der Sar.
Van Persie will be the latest great Dutch player at United.

It certainly has become that. Sure it means we wont recoup much if any of the £24mill we spent, but times have changed. Go back about 15 years and 30 was over the hill. AC and their Milan sports science lab really changed a lot, keeping players like Maldini playing into their late 30's. We've replicated that just looking at Giggs and Scholes and we have our own top of line £10mill lab opening later this year. Science has moved on and we know more these days, with the right care and understanding of limits some players can play a lot longer. Some have accused of of trying to buy for the short term but we could easily get 4 solid years out of RVP, maybe more. and on matkamans point, we have Danny tied down now, even if we do get 4 years out of RVP, he'll only be 25 and entering his prime by then. Who knows he may well even be forcing himself into first choice much before then.

To be honest i'm amazed at the reaction and comments which have come from opposing teams, pundits etc.
You can actually sense that they now feel threatened, very much so. They're doing a very bad job of trying to say it doesn't really matter that Robin Van Persie has joined us, they were never interested in the first place, blah..blah.
Nonsense. You can almost smell their fear.

The age thing is nothing, it's a way for people to make it look like it's a waste of money.
Players who have relied on pace struggle as they get older, they no longer have the legs to get past players and their game declines.
Van Persie has never relied on pace, he is just a superb technical footballer, and those players can continue at the top level for years.
Look at Sheringham, Raul, Del Piero, Bergkamp, Baggio, hell I remember when Baggio was retiring at 37 he'd still done so well there was a big clamour in the Italian press and public for him to be picked in their Euro 2004 squad, and he only got overlooked because Del Piero and Totti went in his place and they couldn't fit 3 very similar players in the squad.
It absolutely would not surprise me if Van Persie is still playing just as well when he's 33,34 or 35 as now.

Suddenly, Man City are scared, because with Van Persie and Kagawa, facing United is a frightening prospect again. I'm thankful for that.
Let's spank a few teams early doors and put the frighteners on everybody big time. Do you think any defender will be looking forward to coming up against our attack this season? WILL THEY FUCK.

I don't think it was a silly comment , I agree SAF will be rotating the squad it's a long season . But to be honest I can't see Rooney or Van Persie sitting on the bench to often . Maybe this is the year Rooney will start more in the Scholsy role with Welbeck and Van Persie up front .
