Ok. You can like your Van Persie and I can like my Chicharito, but at the end of the day why would you want to swap a young, well settled, no airs, fans' favourite, impact player for an older, much more expensive, arguably better player who would want to start every game? It would easily be 25m quid for a 28 year old who would at least be on 150k/week. And it would mean persisting with a 4-4-2 with two strikers who both like to come deep to get involved in the build up. Berbatov-Rooney situation all over again.

i wouldn't swap chico for van persie in a million years.
van persie has finally had a good season and as has been said he's nearly 29.
as much as i like welbeck i'm expecting big things from hernandez next season

Van Persie isn't "arguably" better than Hernandez for a start. RVP is class.

@ginger- agreed, still never hurts to have someone like RVP. It does. We can't have 4 strikers and a Kagawa in the squad if we want to play a 4-2-3-1. That will either mean Hernandez ending up in a Berbatov situation and leaving next season or Welbeck not getting enough games and stunting his development. Thats besides the fact we'll be wasting money in transfer fees as well as wages in an area of the pitch where we're well covered. That is if we play 4-2-3-1 formation, don't get me wrong i am all for a change in formation, but rooney alone at top leaves him frustrated, although it did look good yesterday with his overall play with Giggs and Young, we will have 3 strikers only next season, Berba and owen most likely off/injured. Keane would probably get into the carling cup and FA Games, we would need another striker and if RVP is available why not. The pair woudl be formidable and it'd win us the Fear back. Apart from expecting a gr8 season from DW and Chico, i'd love Llorente or Leandro in our team, since RVP is still just a silly dream.

How did everyone reach this conclusion? Have you forgotten the 09-10 season already? Also, if we started buying every player in the world who was available and whoring himself, how would that make us any different from City?

Agreed we shouldn't be buying every player and we are not like city, but when the good do become available why not go for them. Football and the players( some of them) have become "ambitious" in wanting to win trophies and compete at the "highest level", and there are sure to be more as the days go by, it won't stop for some time.
Besides RVP has not behaved like Nasri or Hazard as far as i can remember, if i am wrong. apologies.
My point is Berba's is most certainly off , if not confined to the bench, owen to his horses. We will have only 3 League proven strikers. As much as Keane excites me, he will make the appearances only in cups.
If we are inquiring about llorente, lewandowski( hope i spelled it correctly) , why not RVP?

Llorente and RVP will both cost more than 30 mil while the latter's wages will be astronomical.
No thanks.
Lewandowski could be a cheaper and more astute option, especially before the Euros, after which I suspect his value will skyrocket.

And you need the club to be willing to sell. And you need the player to be willing to move. Of all the above mentioned points we currently have none in our favour. In fact, we dont even have any tribalfootball or goal.com rumours linking these players to us, so why are we even bothering to discuss their potential transfers?

You can't build a squad in anticipation of a catastrophe. Look around you, how many squads apart from City's have more than 3 established strikers? And even if you have 4 strikers, you can't have two of them in the world class category, yet have space for only one in the starting line up. It leads to major instability and thats even before we get into the financial side of things.
