Not sure how to feel about this one if it goes through. We do need a left back but we also need a right back as well as the obvious things. If it's £15m that's a lot of money for a near 28 year old Everton left back who has never really struck me as a top player. Still, it would make me a bit more comfortable knowing there's a viable alternative to Evra who is at the very least more solid and dependable defensively, but still offers something going forward.

I wouldn't call Evra solid and reliable defensively at all. He's been a liability for 2 seasons.

Defensive lapses wise i'd say evra and baines are almost the same, Baines free kick is the extra here, not sure we'd need to pay 15 Mil for that.

Again disagree; Baines has been far more solid for Everton than Evra has for us in the last 18-24 months.

for me my worry is if baines comes in its either evra bucks up fast or he is benched, baines wont come in to warm the bench, he will know he now has the platform to really do things. his delivery is fantastic. if we were looking to sell evra then this deal sort of makes sense, but as competition in light of the fact that money can go on other pressing areas then its not a smart move. we should also look at the young lad from bayern, alaba, bags of potential there and 18 (surely under 12 million closer to 7 as he has a very short contract), ther is also fabio (no cost at all as he is our player), there is blackett (maybe 2 years away) there is the guy in spain siquera (about 7 million aswell) and alba(8-10 million), there are options and decent ones too, cissokho (permanent deal of about 8 million). strong options out there and for less than the 12-15 million everton would want. to be fair the papers are probably talking rubbish on this one

Agree with Bestie for once- Evra has been poor for us over past 18 mths. Both fullback positions are areas we need investment in.

There's a young french fullback who plays for Lille on the left I think, know him from FM & always buy him (Y) ...he's a great player on there so you just know of course that'll be reflect real life . Lucas Digne I think his name is, there was rumours of him being brought by someone in the January window. Does anybody know how good he actually is in reality, I know he has featured a lot more for Lille this season so just wondering whether he could be a worthy investment???

Yeah. He is talented as you say. Although even I know him only from FM. He was linked with a move to City.

OPTA website. "Baines was only dribbled past 10 times this season, whereas Patrice Evra and Ashley Cole were both beaten 29 times."

Not surprised with that stat Chris.
He's a steady player, Baines. Doesn't panic.
