This is a good move, we need to sign more young players with potential. I hope RVP is next . Then maybe someday midfield and defense.

I think united are waiting to announce the deal until it has been decided where he is going. back to la U, to our European partnership team, or to see if he can have a work permit..

United can always play the "exceptional talent" card like we did with Chicharito when he arrived.

United can always play the "exceptional talent" card like we did with Chicharito when he arrived. I've been told by someone on this board that this rule does not exist...I have no real idea how this works tbh...

Angelo Henriquez has revealed in an exclusive interview with La Tercera that he is indeed set to join United.
"I am fulfilling a dream that I have had for a long time and I will be able to realise it soon," he said. "I will meet with Alex Ferguson on Wednesday and talk about what he wants from me. I cannot waste this opportunity because it is something I've wanted all my life."
The Universidad de Chile striker says his agent, Fernando Felicevich, will meet with the club to define his immediate future - his ambition is to play for United's first team but if it's decided he'll go out on loan first, he would prefer to go back to Universidad de Chile on this basis.
Neither club have yet announced any deal.

Sounds like a great lad, pleased to hear he's got the desire to wear the shirt.

soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1134358/manchester-united-close-on-angelo-henriquez----reports-say?cc=3888Universidad de Chile striker Angelo Henriquez has undergone a medical exam for Manchester United, and is poised to sign with the club for a $5.5 million transfer fee, according to reports. Manchester United is said to be nearing a deal with Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez. "His exam was done today. I have talked to him and he is happy and calm," his brother, Cesar Henriquez told Chilean newspaper, La Tercera. Henriquez, 18, had been scouted by Manchester United for the past three years, since his first appearance in Europe for Universidad de Chile in the Nike Manchester Cup, Cesar Henriquez said. "The agents would come and watch Angelo at all his matches. They would talk for a long time with him and in some ways would counsel him," said Cesar Henriquez, who told La Tercera that Manchester United scouts John Calvert Toulmin and Jose Mayorga have been evaluating his brother monthly since 2010. "They started [evaluating] with 10 players in South America and now only Angelo is left," he said. "He has made great sacrifices, but it is his dream to play for Manchester United." Universidad assistant manager Sebastian Beccacece revealed that Henriquez is currently not "available" for the club, adding to speculation that a transfer is in the pipeline. "No doubt he is a very useful player, with a good goalscoring talent," Beccacece told Radio ADN, "but we have to count on the players that we have available, not the ones that aren't available." Henriquez was a part of the Chilean U20 squad, which recently completed a tour of Europe. The striker scored 11 goals in 17 league appearances in 2012 and starred in both the Apertura competition and the Copa Libertadores after the departure of Eduardo Vargas. According to La Tercera, Henriquez did not return to Chile following the tour and has headed to Manchester United's camp. Just some background quotes.

Nice to know that the player wants to wear the Club Shirt and this is Dream Club. Better if he went on loan to further develop.

FOOTBALL New Manchester United striker Angelo Henriquez says he would prefer to move to previous club Universidad if Sir Alex Ferguson decides to loan him out.
"I want to play in the first team of Manchester United. That's my first thought," says Henriquez, speakng to Chile paper La Tercera. "If they decide to send me on loan, I would prefer to continue at Universidad, although I will do whatever United deem appropriate."

Good man! Now, why can't they grow them like that in...oh I don't know...France, Argentina, Belguim, Brazil..?
[EDIT] It's nice to see people have learned their lesson after the Hernandez thread. Personal growth is a beautiful thing.

I've been reading up on Henriquez a bit. It seems like we agreed an option to sign him while he was on trial with the club last year. thebusbyway.com/2011/03/31/video-united-agree-first-option-deal-for-young-chilean/angelo-henriquez/If we agreed a first option on him last year, then I don't understand the last minute interest from City. But maybe that was just fabricated as soon as journalists heard about him having a medical in Manchester. Those assholes will write any piece of crap they can squeeze out.

^^ Mocth, the first option does not mean exclusive rights.
with the latter, nothing City does would compel us to rubber stamp the deal until we deem fit. with a first option though, all it takes is a rival club to express interest or make a bid and we MUST make our move or lose out to the other interested party.
so, in short, if City made an offer to UdC for Henriquez, UdC have to ask us if we still want him. if we do, we firm up our offer and pay the predetermined fee. If we weren't interested, it leaves City with a free run at him. I actually believe that City wanted him, thus why we have moved now.

By accounts his time at UdC was going very well so it seemed fair enough to leave him there for another year. Maybe the City interest was legit and they forced our hand. Not that it really mattered as the fee was already arranged. Glad to here we have signed him though, always exciting taking a punt on an exciting youngster. Did very well last season from what I hear, a 17 year old thrown into the first team at a respectable level of football and he did very well. A good goal to game ratio I think and some good experience playing in the South American 'CL'. I guess where he is next season will depend heavily on his work permit.
