Reckon this is nothing more than paper shite, it's been evident in every transfer window now for the last 4 years almost that we're bidding for Modric in some capacity.
We'd have to bid about 30 mil to make this plausible, they rejected 38 mil for him last summer, as has been mentioned, but maybe Modric threw his toys out and told Levi he'll force a move if they don't get CL and he'd give them another year. If Redknapp goes, this one has a hint of a chance.
If it happens, great, but realistically I'm not getting any hopes up till I see quotes or some substantial evidence this isn't just journos making stuff up. Don't do it to yourself, the Euros are still on for a while and this thread has the potential to become a mixture of Hazard/Sneijder, depending on how it ends.

Something about this deal seems entirely possible to me.

Personally, I think Modric is overrated and aren't getting excited by this at all Modric is overrated? Are you kidding me? Precisely. I've said it before - this board gives nowhere near enough credit to players from other Premiership sides. We're talking about one of the best players in the league over the past three seasons here!! Likewise Baines et al don't deserve facepalms. They might not be 'United quality' (whatever that means) in some of our eyes, but they have churned out very commendable performances regularly.

Something about this deal seems entirely possible to me. Probably the fact that Chelsea won't be in for him again after signing Hazard and City have their sights set on Sneijder.

They might not be 'United quality' (whatever that means) in some of our eyes, but they have churned out very commendable performances regularly. Baines doesn't deserve a facepalm, but Dembele and Dempsey do. Baines just shouldn't cost any more than £14 million. The difference with Modric to the D's, is that he has done it for Spurs, a club actually fighting to be somewhere in the League. I never bought into it but if you believed the media Spurs were almost challenging for the title last season, and of course their actual goal was what was supposed to be European Cup 4th spot. They got it, just about, but missed out because of Chelsea. Doesn't mean he isn't over-hyped either though. Modric is a top class player but the way some peole make out it's as if he is the second coming of Scholes. I'll admit I was in awe of the guy a couple of season's ago when he first came into the League but seeing him over the course of his time at Tottenham the awe has levelled into a casual admiration. If we signed him, I would be over-the-moon as he's a big name that will cause other teams to sit up and brick it a little bit more when they have to play us. Signing Modric is as much to do with the message it sends as it does with him being, as said, a top-class player. This whole crack about 'not rating other teams' best players' is becasue we are on a different level to every other club in the country bar city. "Best" at another team is usually "rotation" for us. Players like Valencia and Young are the exceptions that prove the rule.

I think Modric is a good player. But there's better players out there we should go for first, then get outbid by Barca/Chelsea/Real/City/PSG/Altrincham.

With you there SET, dream with me for a bit. Imagine we pull off Modric for under 30 (say 28Mil), add Strootman (we're still dreaming here - for the rumored 11mil) and add them to Kagawa (12mil) and Henriquez (3mil) it could be one of our most efficient and memorable summers in ages. That'd be around 54mil spent, about the same as last season, and we'll have completely revamped a much needed area of our squad. More importantly, we'll have that fear factor again

I mean £14 million. If Everton want £20 million there is no way we could negotiate that down by half. But yes, the player should actually be worth about £10 mil. Same on Modric, anything under 30 million of the Queen's pretty face and we should go for it. @ jay - Strootman would be lovely thanks.

If we get Strootman for anything less than 20 id personally go to liverpool and slap Gerrard in the face with a wet kipper.
Can't see PSV being willing to let him go that easily or cheaply, given that they don't need to sell and hes expected to become a key player for Holland for the forseeable future.
But yes, Modric, Strootman & Kagawa would be a nice way to reinforce midfield alright. Especially if Carrick carries on his form and with Scholes in the mix (and the odd cameo from Giggsy - still want him to make 1000 apps for us) that would take all the pressure and expectation off Cleverley and allow him to develop fairly. Plus might allow Petrucci to go out on loan and gain some experience - Im thinking Reading or Soton.
EDIT - Everton can keep him for that price, its not like they need the mon....oh wait. 10mill would be more than fair.
Id rather carry on as is than spunk more than that on him. If we reinforce the midfield we will just outscore the oppo - screw defending

True, and Strootman is already PSV's captain, at 22.
Perhaps we can toss them Ando plus Fabio on loan, we're on pretty good terms with them. Ah well, it was worth a thought, Strootman will be immense - two footed enforcer with an eye for a pass and a mad shot.

I believe we should do everything in our power to sing Strootman he fits the ill for a ball winning midfielder we have always needed since Keano left

must say modric is better than being just 'good'. he is a top midfielder and if we sign him then he will take his game to another level. some players need the platform. ronaldinho psg to barca is just one of many names that when they went to another team really went to another level. eto mallorca to barca pirlo inter to milan
