Modric is a player of the highest quality he may not bang in loads of goals or get a huge number of assists , But the amount of goals/chances that gets created when Modric recives the ball in the middle is why he`s constantly linked with the big clubs each summer , too many people obviously are either A) reading to much into stats or B) Just watching highlights on MOTD on a saturday night and not getting the opportunity to see what his all about

Modric`s is often the pass before the assist, he makes things tick, which is priceless in the right team.I reckon Modric would have a lot more assists playing behind our forwards.

It's funny Areba says Modric get the pass before the assist. I say that all the time, he's the assist-maker, not the goal-maker.
I think I should point out that I would adore Modric to come to us, but I am also desperate to see us move away from the sitting-back and waiting to counter-attack when the other team eventually wastes possession tactics we currently use. We're at our best and most enjoyable to watch when we're either taking teams on on the front foot and attacking them, or when we disrupt the other team's attack midway through and catch them on the hop. We used to rule at that. At the moment we can't catch teams on the counter really because their attacking moves only break down either when the ball goes out of play or when they score, giving them a chance to re-organise defensively.
That's why I think a Strootman should be priority over a Modric. Yes, Modric would help make us a joy going forwards, but he would just add to the 'screening' rather than 'tackling' when we're looking the other way.

Would like Modric over Tiote . Not sure of him and Carrick out there together though.I guess they could be our Xavi and Iniesta but then we need Messi.

I totally agree bestie, was mentioning something very similar to a mate of mine the other day, he's not always the supplier of the final pass but he orchestrates the entire movement to get set up that position near goal. A deep lying playmaker, technically. If we can play him in Scholes's role, since Scholes can barely tackle, we'll definitely gain defensively whilst he's able to set anything going moving forward. He keeps the ball all day and he's also got the ability to play long balls, or simply pick out our wingers if need be.
I shudder to think of him behind Kagawa, with our wingers on either side, could be an absolute joy to watch. Carrick will just have to commit to an even more defensive role in front of the back 4 since, if we get Modric, I doubt we'll bring in the box to box tough tackling ball player some of us crave. Maybe give Tunnicliffe the odd cup game, phase in Fletcher again if possible?
I still think, regardless of who we sign, Clevers will surprise many people again when he comes back, even just sub appearances. He has it all to prove but, at times, his intensity and tenacity when we're dispossessed could be a template for our midfield/forwards when we're pressing.

since Scholes can barely tackle Misconception again. He's a nasty little bugger. The mistimed challenges are on purpose to rattle the opponents. Read Jamie Redknapp say the same thing once. I thought last season was probably one of his best ones in terms of tackling - put in quite a few well timed ones.

He's not a player I'd expect to disposes an opposing central midfielder ginger, that's all I mean. He can make a tackle and win the ball, but he's not going to make ball winning challenges throughout the game. ''quite a few" - few being the operative word. Don't get me wrong man, he can make a challenge here and there but I reckon Modric has more in his locker in terms of interceptions, dispossessing opponents and actually winning the ball on more than one occasion during a match, he can also move around more and for longer, add that to a defensively orientated midfield partner and we'll definitely gain a bit in terms of defence.
