Is this a thread highlighting the good work Carrick does? Surely not? Isn't he the passenger in the team who contributes nothing?
Sorry for the sarcastic comments but I am sick to death of defending Carrick, there some idiots out there who refuse to realize what he contributes to the team.
England could of doing with him in the euros, they were crying out for a midfield player who could hold the ball allowing the attacking players to get further up the field.
I think he's one of the most unde ratted players in english football today.

YEah, I agree that England could have done with him in the team. A midfield with Parker doing the donkey work, Carrick shielding the defence and Gerrard having more licence to roam would have been a lot more effective in my mind.
--------------------Hart Johnson (Geez) Terry LEscott Cole ------PArker----------Carrick-------------- --------------Gerrard---------------- Walcott/Welbeck------Young ------------Rooney--------
That looks so much better. BUt for this formation it would have taken some radical thinking. After all, it's not 4-4-2.

England could have done with him? Bit of an understatement.
Picking a team without him was fucking stupid.

agree with a lot of that dan except about letting gerrard roam. we've tried that before and he's never looked any good. he's just had his best tournie and it was by playing in the middle with defensive responsibilities

Carrick is only ever appreciated by us United fans. All the other degenerates wouldn't know class if it hit them in the face.

You're right Tat. I honestly wish that would change. The value of this lad would be raised 10 times as much if he was of Spanish upbringing. But an Englishman that doesn't hoof the ball???! Naaaawww not good enough for England !! Tossers.

I gave up trying to explain to my non-Utd fan friends the value of what Carrick does years ago.
They not only don't seem to appreciate his ability, they simply don't understand it.

I'd Say that most of have to appreciate him before we start convincing others , he'd be must appreciated elsewhere like Spain, problem is in England most think Gerrard and Lampard are better that Scholes , when that is the case what chance does Carrick have . really?

As Carrick has been mentioned again, I thought I'd just dig up this old thread as it has a nice compilation linked on the front page....
As has been said, I wish he would get forward more and he does seem to play with more freedom when Clevers plays....

Call me an idiot or whatever you like but I don't think Carrick is anything more than a good player. He is certainly not a world class Central Midfield player that dictates games the way a UTD midfielder should. Just my thoughts of course. My opinion of Carrick is purely a football based one.
Carrick is our most Experienced and established midfield player. Yet if we went into a game today against any of our biggest rivals in Germany, Italy, Spain and England we would be playing second fiddle in the middle of the park.

Disappointed his performance against Roma isn't in there, same with a peach of a goal he scored against Blackburn where he found literally the only gap to goal through about 5 or 6 players. Carrick is a player I really like, such a nice bloke. But he should score more, get forwards more for us as well. He usually strikes me as someone playing on a leash, or within himself or something. He definitely has ridiculous talent, I'd love to see him getting 10/12 goals for us in this run-in. Really stamp his authority on the first team spot he deserves to have a grip on right now. When he has played with Clevers this season he has looked every inch of the player I thought he could be in terms of complete midfielder. Banging on until it becomes a thing: United's Double Dose of Vitamin C.
