Lou Macari is a miserable prick. I know this has nothing to do with this story but wanted to point it out.

Miserable prick or not- Macari is spot on, if Welbeck is holding out for an extra £20,000, he should head across town to the council house.

I don't get it, how come these kids do not realise the opportunity they are being given to play at the most presitigious club in England and instead look for more money. I don't reckon the guys at Barca face this problem with their youth do they? It is absolutely ridiculous , the hold that agents and representatives have on these kids. Scholes and Giggs should really have a sit down with the lad and explain to him the measure of opportunity he has in playing here and not listen to his scum advisers who are only after a heftier commission. How the fuck can you not see that lad !

Does anybody here think that this might be the result of Wayne Rooney's contract standoff 2 seasons ago ? Suddenly every other player at United thinks he also can get a better deal by refusing to sign a contract? It wouldn't be a wrong theory.

Hang on. We're all happy to go along with the policy of paying kids peanuts and then re-neogitating contracts when they do well a la Hernandez. Well, Welback has done enough to justify a raise. He's haggling over 60, Utd are offering 40. I'm sure it'll be worked out but when are people going to stop blaming players in this all the time and start to look at the club to an extent? Welback is Utd and England's starting centre forward. He's ahead of Berbatov, Defoe, Carroll etc.. He's currently on 15 grand a week. That's laughable (relatively). Maybe he knows how much a comparable player earns at another club? We're used to getting blown out of the water by Chelsea and City on wages for new signings like Hazard and Nasri. Fine these are exceptional crazy clubs that hopefully are on the road to ruin due to FFP. But if we accept this then I don't accept short-changing players that have come through the system and have done well. Players should be delighted to play for Utd? They are. Why should this be used against them. Because Danny is a local lad he should accept less than he would get elsewhere? Forget emotion for a minute. A player of Welbeck's ability would command 60 grand at Chelsea, Real or whoever you want to name. In a heartbeat.
Oh and Lou? "Supporters are divided on Danny" Why do you need to point that out in a national newspaper? If that was Ian Rush talking about Raheem Sterling he'd be telling the world how good he is. Wanker.

Of course Stew, I had said long ago that Welbeck on 15 grand is a travesty and a joke. In fact I also don't mind him getting 60k. Having said that 40k is not a bad deal for such a young lad as well. Probably they meet at 50k? What I was pointing out was the sudden uprising among the youth with regards to contract demands. I was wondering if that was anything due to the contract standoff. Or maybe, rather than the kids themselves its their scummy agents who have seen the club cave in to Rooney and are now pouncing themselves thinking that we would cave similarly for their clients too.

Sorry for being so emphatic. Macari commentates on an Irish Sports channel and honestly he does my head in. Constantly criticises the players, never any praise particularly the young ones. David Fairclough also does it and I'm not joking, he's better to listen to. Far more balanced when it comes to Utd. David Fairclough!

I don't blame the players in these situations anymore. It's the agents and the club itself. As I said somewhere else, I'm all for salary prudence but we're punishing ourselves to prove a point no-one else has the morality to give a damn about. Stop haggling and give the lad what he deserves. Which is a significant pay bump to bring him closer to the likes of Sturridge (£60, 000 p.w.) - £50, 00 at lowest.
Yes, in some cases agents are the disgrace, but to treat a homegrown lad thsi way is a negative on the club too.

If he does well the contract will come. Players are becoming far to impatient. they want the massive contract now when in hindsight Wellbeck was good last season but didnt pull up many tree's. In FM terms. tell him to prove he deserves a new contract on the pitch!

Hernandez had one good season and we upped his wage immediately, and Welbeck is a better player. He deserves a much better contract than 1 year left on £15, 000. If Danny Welbeck leaves now I will be even more dis-enamoured with football in gneral and our club specifically.
I could understand if we were talking about this a year ago, Welbeck coming off a successful loan spell at Sunderland and little more, but we aren't. He's a main striker for us now and we're still pratting about.

Yes, Welbeck does deserve more. No, he won't leave United. Yes, Lou Mac's comments were out of order. I think SET pointed out a few days ago that Chicharito had a new contract clause in his contract if he had played a certain number of games. So its probably not fair to compare the two cases. I feel this is all too reminiscent of Wesley Brown's contract negotiations. Our club takes the piss when it comes to local lads. Its a standard negotiation which is being blown out of proportion by the media.

Isn't Lou Macari entitled to his opinion whether you like, dislike or don't really have a view on his point of view in the first place.?
I don't think anybody is debating that Danny Welbeck probably deserves a better wage.
Macari is effectively saying if Welbeck does receive £40,000/ £50,000 a week, and his agent is whispering in his ear about £60,000 a week, etc.
Is Welbeck going to walk out the door because he didn't get the £10,000 that his agent was whispering in his ear about?
Why did you leave United, Danny? Ten grand.
It's ludicrious. Macari has a point in my view.

60k a week? Name someone better you can pay for less. Get him signed up.
Also, Macari should stick to fish & chips.
