@ Red Dub - Macari has entitled to an opinion, yes. What he isn't entitled to is every United fan's opinion. For him to say that Welbeck divides opinion among United fans is just wrong! Coz he doesn't.

If he doesn't get his contract sorted, I'm sure we have a whole host of other talented players that are willing to replace him.
Hope they reach an agreement.

been said before but we somehow seem to treat our local players a bit shabbily as compared to other players in our squad. We may be able to replace DW , but think about it for a sec ,in 1-2 years time this lad will be immense and he already is starting for England and has done so for us also.
@60k , we are saying tha a player shouldn't haggle over 10-20K , other way around if we are a big club and have money and want to keep the best talent, then why are we haggling over 10-20K per week with the player/agent/parent/---. Surely we can afford it or some to some arrangements. We are topping commercial business there are lot of ways that gap can be bridged with player and yet we don't and put it out for the Fans to take the piss on the player or agent. I can accept what happened with Pogba/Morrison/Fryers and i say F**k off to them but Welbs is an entirely different story. This guy's got talent , kept quite and went on loan and proved himself at other club and ours and we should really be looking to tie him down. If he needs an extra 20 , possibly give it to him with new clauses or sort this out quickly. Too many of our contracts are stalling and coming out in bad light IMO

he agreed an offer 40k and then bonuses up to an extra 20k. why now does he want a straight 60k?

Pay him the money, he's worth it. unlike other he's actually proven himself to a degree. With TV rights going up next year quite significantly, we should expect wages to continue to rise anyway.
Also as a side note, hasn't 15k a week been our standard wage for those highly rated youngsters for several years? It all well and good trying to be strict and rigid in structure but times change.

paying him 60k might not be the issue. it could be anything. perhaps his agent is being impossible. perhaps welbeck himself has got out of line somehow. we just don't know, all we can do is speculate, which is why these threads are so boring and pointless imo.

It may be unfair to compare Chicha and Welbeck but that won't change the fact that Danny is probably doing it week in week out, (with or without an agent whispering in his ear.) It'd be impossible not to.
You look at someone who's sitting on the bench, who the manager clearly thinks is not as good as you, (in that setup at least,) yet they're currently getting paid more than 4 times as much as you are. Worse is that his strike partner held the club to ransom and ends up on £190k, (reported in the media to be > £200k.)
So why wouldn't he hold out for more? It's difficult to argue with the capitalists' view point. If his pay determines his worth to the club, or how good he is as a player, then paying him £40k is effectively the same as saying he's half the player that Hernandez is or 1 fifth the player that Rooney is.
Know it's not as straightforward as that, nor is it a view that I agree with. But if someone was going to bend his ear it's a pretty easy idea to push.
Agree totally with redcase, Rooney's completely screwed the wage structure at the club. But what's done is done. Deal with it and move on. Everyone will be wanting more now and we'll have to start paying them to continue to compete.

Just want to throw in as a lot of people seem to be having a go at Rooney for messing our wage structure up. Sorry, but Roy Keane did that 12 years ago. He refused to sign a deal until we broke our long standing pay structure and gave in to his demands, he was looking to walk away on a free until we did that.
Once we now longer had a wage ceiling in place, players could make what demands they want.
It was always going to happen eventually, but lets not jump on Rooney's back when he was just following Keane's example.

to be fair someone has to break the wage cap from time to time otherwise the top players would still be on 1k a week and less. you just hope they go about things in the right way

If this is true it's a joke.
We have already lost some of our best young players due to contract negotiations, ffs.

Not a criticism of Keane as such, just kinda defending Rooney. He pissed me off as much as anyone with his behaviour, but to say it's because of him that we have players with unreasonable demands (ala Pogba and Freyers) isn't really true. Wages have shot up big time since the club first caved in to demands for wages, and as I say, that was to Keane, not Rooney.

The guy clearly loves Manchester United.. why would he be holding out for more money? unless United are offering him a 5year deal worth £40k a week in which he wants a pay rise after each year, maybe
