From memory think Keane got about 50,000 a week.
As I say, not slagging Keane off, and of course the salary cap had to end at some point, just don't see why whenever we have a contract dispute now someone has to do the shaking fist thing and say "Ggrr, damn you Rooney".
How Rooney went about it was an absolute disgrace, but he was following in others footsteps.
And yes, he's getting 4 times the wages Keane was, but that's how footballs gone now. He's still not the highest earner in the Prem League, Keane's wage was a vast amount at that time. Maybe a couple of players in the league would have been on more than 50 grand a week back then.

all agents should be shot FACT. ITS THE AGENTS THAT ARE RUINING THE BEUTIFUL GAME. i know its nothing to do with this thread but i just thought i would throw out there lol. its in the best interests of the club if you pay my player this amount. hang on get it right cheese dick he is our player, and you mean to say its in the best interests of my bank account that you pay him this. Sir matt would be turning in his grave. young players are too impatient these days. Danny welbeck has not been in the game long enough or done or won enough to warrant a massive payrise. BE PATIENT YOUNG PADAWAN YOUR TIME WILL COME. if youdont want to wait , FUCK OFF TO THE COUNCIL ESTATE AT EASTLANDS they will throw you money like its going out fashion lol.

I'm hoping we don't alienate Welbeck by treating him the same way we did the likes of Wesley Brown.
And I also hope, Welbeck isn't being a billy big balls prick and demanding a stupid wage because of one good season.

i dont know how long he has left on his contract but if its 3 years then really everyone can sit down next may and talk, we would have seen him for 2 years and know what he is about. there is no doubt he has talent, he scores goals and to be fair misses sitters, that needs to change. this season will be big as i believe him and hernandez will be competing with rooney for one spot.

All the noise says he's only got a year left on his current contract which is what's worrying.
Can see Welbeck's concerns. United would obviously obviously want to tie him down to a 4/5 year deal. Meaning that his ability to renegotiate would be in 2 or 3 years time.

Just to not give them the traffic:
Danny Welbeck will sign a five-year contract worth £75,000 a week at Manchester United. The England striker, out of Wednesday’s clash with Italy through injury, will end protracted talks about his new deal. Welbeck, 21, had been reluctant to sign another long-term contract until his salary reflected his growing status as Wayne Rooney’s regular strike partner at United.
He made 30 appearances in the Barclays Premier League last season after forcing his way ahead of his rival forwards at Old Trafford— Dimitar Berbatov, Javier Hernandez and the departed Michael Owen. He scored nine league goals for United before he was taken to Euro 2012 by new England chief Roy Hodgson. This season, Ferguson has set a minimum target of 20 goals for Welbeck, who now has nine England caps. His new contract, to be signed imminently, is packed with incentives based on future performance.

I'm chuffed he's signing, bit of a fee but that's the reality these days.
He really needs to step it up this season though, he had a good one last year but by no means incredible. Still think we're yet to see the best of him, very much still a player in the making. I just hope he comes on as much as we all hope he will.
