In all fairness alantas, Rafael had a howler. And Juan was right, what is Rafael doing backheeling the ball in such a position? Rafael was at fault for the first goal as well. The lad needs to sharpen up , caught ball-watching far too often. Still have nightmares about that 3rd goal against Bilbao. Yes, Rafael gave the ball away, but you do not argue with your teammates or ruffle your team's morale by engaging them on the pitch. Leave the arguments and discussions off the pitch. Rafael pointed to his head, possibly to gesture "use your head" - which I agree. He knows he's having a poor game, but what he or the team doesn't need, is a confrontation with each other on the pitch. Beyond the point, Brazil has been poor today - not only Rafael. In fact, Rafael has been a blast this tournament, bar this game. I'm excited to see him back in the squad for us! Even more ecstatic that he hasn't sustained any injury. Rafael's best position is obviously as an attacking wing back - unfortunately, that means we will never get a solid right back out of him, but that also means we will have a demon overlapping on the right.

Once again the worries about Rafael resurface. He's had a blinding tournament then, shit decision making cost Brazil a goal in the first minute and causes a ruck with his center-half in the final 10. Really can't understand why he was kicking off at Juan. He screwed up, he should've swallowed it and got on with it. That said, a lot of his play in the tournament reminded me of a box to box mid rather than a right back... (Sorry, this transfer window seems to be screwing with my mind )

This game made me question my opinion of Rafael. Always thought he would go on to become a world class player. He still might, but he mas made too many mistakes too often in big games. Needs to sort it out. Fast. Rafael will be reeling from this. If there ever was a confidence player, that is him. We should start with Jones at right back at Goodison if he is fit.

Rafael pointed to his head, possibly to gesture "use your head" Or maybe Juan reminded him of Tevez

Think dropping him now would decimate him. But you are right. He's a liability. Jones at right back might have to be the choice if Fergie's serious about Carrick playing centre-half. The idea of Carrick, Rafael, and Evra starting at the back against Everton is seriously worrying.

Raf's Hairdryer Treatment - Going off topic here, but I really hope Sir Alex isn't contemplating starting Carrick at center half. Jelavic will have a field day. He can dominate both Rio and Carrick aerially. Vida has seemed fine so far. I think he'll be ready. Also heard Evans is back in training at Carrington.

I wouldn't go as far as to drop Raf has in all fairness he has had quite a decent tournament. The problem is the bad outweigh the good. His tournament will be remembered for the cock up pass which led to the goal and his tussle with Juan sheet. His problem is hes too rash with his choices and tends to make silly mistakes, Most players over time learn from those mistakes but atm Raf doesn't seem to be doing that. Hes improving that's obvious but the little niggles that people can highlight with him are still continuing to show and this is whats holding him back from being a top quality Right Back.
I like the lad but today showed that after the time hes spent at united he still hasn't got past that learning curve, the plus side is hes still young and has time on his side for now, Still going to have to take it up a notch if he wants to be united permanent Right Back. The only thing saving him at the moment is the fact of other positions require more important attention.

I know what you're saying Paul. I just meant we could take him out of the spotlight for a while. Give him some time to get over things and bring him back in some easy home game. Still think he should be our first choice right back, and playing consistently will give him the confidence to be that. But for the start of the season, starting him could prove to be costly.

Aye I know mate wasn't trying to criticize or anything, I agree with your point the only problem with it he is out only recognized Right Back at the moment. Smalling can play there and so can Valencia the problem with that is Valencia's ability is null and void when hes at RB because he cant do what he does best so unfortunately unless we look at the possibility of the likes of Vesseli coming through were stuck with Raf. I have faith in him at the moment so I hope he delivers.

Barring this game , i thought Rafael was good throughout the tournament. While he was bad today, so was the others, Neymar missed a good chance in the 2nd half and ballooned one over the goal, Oscar missed a good chance.

He did but as I said in a previous post the bad will always outweigh the good unfortunately mate. As was said after the game and I agree with Robbie Savage, They went out there expecting to walk it, the arrogance got the better of them and they paid the price. Fair play to Mexico, they defended well, they pushed the Brazilians back and came at them well, unlucky to only get 2 imo.

Cheers Paul. Think you missed out Jones there. Felt it was his best position last year. karthy - Just checked on espnstar's website. Guess the games will be live on ESPN HD and Star Sports. ESPN is telecasting the Sri Lanka Premier League for some completely absurd reason. Also - Good spot on that Reyes dude. What a game he had! Seems a bit frail though. Meir was a rock at the back as well. Our scouts would do well to keep tabs on these Mexican kids.

paul- yes i agree the arrogance got the better of Brazil. What do you know we have something in common with this Brazil team after all. I asked about Reyes cos he caught my eye a lot today . @ginger- oh ok, cos i checked and it seemed like that they were all going to be highlight or telecast later and not live. I hate if Man Utd matches are not Live Telecast.
