The technically gifted part is more of a necessity than just our own opinions. Fergie won't buy a battering midfielder unless he contributes to the team in many aspects. Good to see him get on the score-sheet vs Barca though.
Ince and Wanyama are probably the most likely incoming players, though we've all learnt to not expect a midfielder. Depending on how Fletch has progressed we'll have a better idea, he's still not back to his old self and if he does reach those levels again then this will be less likely. Helps that he can play CB though, considering our annual meltdown. Ticks the boxes that's for sure.

www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2230182/Manchester-United-keen-Celtics-Victor-Wanyama.htmlManchester United are stepping up their interest in Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama. The imposing Kenyan was the Scottish side's hero in Wednesday night's epic 2-1 defeat of Barcelona, scoring his side's first goal and negating the threat of Xavi and Andres Iniesta. His performance was noted by United with chief European scout Martin Ferguson in attendance at Celtic Park to watch the 21-year-old impress once again. Sportsmail first revealed United's interest in July and they have kept a keen eye on his progress. QPR failed with a £10million offer for Wanyama in August while Manchester City, Arsenal and Sunderland have also shown interest. Celtic signed Wanyama from Germinal Beerschot in Belgium for just £900,000 last year and last week manager Neil Lennon said he was worth £25m. However, Premier League clubs are likely to offer around £12m in January with United weighing up their move. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants another midfielder and Wanyama's age will also appeal. Former United defender Gary Neville, talking of the player's performance against Barcelona, said: 'That display has put him right in the shop window and Celtic will do very well to hold on to him.' Wanyama, who made his debut for Kenya at just 15, is contracted to Celtic until 2014 and has already rejected an offer to improve his deal.

Ticks the boxes really, similar to the Kagawa deal.
The type of player we need, i.e. a player that can tackle and play a bit (from what I've read). EDIT: Can play Centre Half Will only have a year left on his contract in January. Not too expensive Young

The fact that he can also play Centre half might be a factor too. Given our annual injury crisis at the back it would make sense.

He reminds me of a Michael Essien in his hayday. I would still regard it as a calculated gamble worth taking a punt on for 12 mill or less. Wouldnt say he is a 20 mill player just yet.

How often do Kenya qualify for the ACON? That would concern me.

He is a terrific player. I have been watching the celts play from the time he was mentioned as a target and i must say that he is good ( said it before the Barca game too).
He is not one to just Protect the back four , he has been used like that , as a box-to box and can surge forward and help in attack too. The one thing i have not seen him do often is probably hit long range shots.
Plus he is 21. Like i said before given our tight purse strings this kid would be ideal and best suited.
Now as far as Fergie saying that we won;t need a def Mid , i don;t buy that. Its just a ploy as we couldn't get one and he wanted to move of the topic. We have used Carrick, Fletcher and Giggs as a Def Mid covering the Back four in PL, CL and Capital One cup already.
Wanyama also said that he'd be delighted if he could play for United. Its quite similar to Kagawa. City coming in place for Arsenal in this one as Spurs and Newcastle for Ince.

not that this matters in the current context of the discussion, ie: do we need him? (which i think he would add much steel to our Midfield) but has anybody noticed that this guy comes from a decent footballing family. did some searching and noticed that this guy is McDonald Mariga's (inter's midfield enforcer) little brother. for those who recognise the name, Mariga was linked with us about 2 years ago, b4 he eventually chose to stay in Italy, and signed with Inter. so maybe we missed the McDonald boat but (might) get the better brother.

Yeah, I mentioned Mariga a while back. He's a decent player too.
Couple of mates today were swearing that Wanyama is a centre-back who fills in at CM, not the other way around. I've avoided watching Celtic this season, can anyone clarify for us please gents?

I've avoided watching Celtic this season Standard. It's Neil Lennon's face. I simply cannot handle it. Also, Scott Brown is just hateful.
