Thought this would re-ignite after last nights game. Only really saw his header to be fair so cant really comment too much. Cant see us signing him though either

Not really seen him play so I'll ask...
Does he have any GENUINE QUALITY or is he just one of those who people wank over because he runs around a lot and puts in a few tackles? (like Scott Parker). I'll be honest from the reasons people are praising him he sounds like the latter.
Because I only want midfielders who are great technically.

Tommy, I have seen him in 3 full games, and a few bits and pieces. (I don’t watch the SPL much if at all) The two games against Barca and a league game awhile back. Celtic strolled the league game so it was easy enough for him. The two Barca games were him covering huge amounts of ground, making his tackles and keeping it pretty simple. He was outstanding last evening in particular. Did he hit 60 yard cross field balls? No. Did he shield his back 4 and generally drive Xavi to distraction? Absolutely. He looks like he could be a better player than Tiote in time. I think saying we want midfielders only of great technical ability is all good and well but honestly, were you saying that as Dembele ran amok against us at OT for Fulham? When Everton did the same twice in 4 months? I wasn’t. I wanted someone in there that would have put Dembele or Fellani on his arse a few times. I won’t even mention the 2011 Champions League final. I don’t know for certain if he is just an enforcer. I’d guess that he has more to his game and he’s only 21.

i agree with tommos sentiments about scott parker, we don't need a player like that. we seem to get overrun in the middle but you can't expect one snappy player to be able to close down / tackle 2 or 3 men. stew you mentioned dembele - i'd say he's a good technical player. more importantly he's a driving force and that's the type of player i reckon we need, someone who offers a threat from the middle of the park which means the opposition can't flood our midfield and beyond because they've got him to worry about going the other way

respect to people saying the SPL is wank but after seeing him only play against barce this kid looks decent. how many other CM have a top game against the two of the modern greats in football. he tracked every run won his tackles, headers and kept things simple. at 21 i do think we should bring him in he would provide great cover for clevz and kagz and can definitely hold his own against big lads. he might be a bit raw at the moment with playing at united under guidance of a master with class players around him i do think the potential is there.

People are focusing mainly on his defensive aspects due to the nature of the two Barca games, but he can run with the ball very well and play a good passing game. I've seen him brush people aside with the ball and surge up the pitch plenty of times, he rarely loses the ball either. Can play simple passes but can also switch the play if needed, one other thing also, he doesn't tend to just pass sideways, he often looks to pass forward.
At 21 it's a no brainer for me.

Thats why we wont. We dnt do no brainer signings

If Wanyama would make a difference to our midfield, which after last nights plodding display by our midfielders, wouldn't be too hard..!
Then i'm all for him for sure.

It was his ease of passing that made me think twice about him, he passes the ball like a snooker player hits a ball, with un-erring quality, effortlessly. He is a big unit though which may not help him long term but he is good player.

Fergie came out in the summer and said United don't play with a defensive midfielder. And that was largely true. the ironic part is we've then gone on to use a midfielder shielding the back line multiple times this season. Giggs being the last there, which is a really poor decision (not bashing him just saying he's ill-suited). If we're going to play a more orthodox 4-3-3 more often, then a 'snappy' player would improve our squad a fair chunk. that said though, we cant carry someone bereft of technical skills, but there are those who have both.

I don't think we need a specifically defensive player in midfield but we do need a powerful, box-to-box type; we have some great technical ability from Carrick, Cleverley, Anderson and Scholes but there's no physical presence in there, its a midfield which is very, very easily brushed aside. From the sounds of things this guy is very capable of that and even if United don't go for him I think Celtic are going to struggle to keep hold of him.

Rorschach makes a very valid point.
When you look at it we do need a physical, robust type of midfielder in there to compete.

We played him at CB last season and I said we should play him in midfield, we played him in midfield and for the time he played there he was brilliant. I say use what we have and try it rather than spend pointless money on a player we don't really need.
