Not seen him so no idea if he's good enough, but think it's a bit backward to automatically write a player off if he plays in a sub standard league.
Solksjaer came from the powerhouse league of Norway. Schmeichel came from the Danish league. Chico came from the Mexican league to us. Keane went from the Irish league to top flight football with Forest (who were better than us at the time) We've just signed Powell from League 2. Kanchelskis came from the Russian league (strong now, shit when he was there)
There's many other examples of players going direct from lower league football, or lesser leagues like Africa, Scandanavia and even Scotland and being hits straight from the off.
As I say, I've never seen the kid play so no clue if he's good enough or not, but I'm sure we're scouting him not just in games against Kilmarnock and St Mirren but in the champions league and internationals as well.

^ Well said, well said dazjoe.
Plus Smalling came from Maidstone United didn't he?
It's not very often that a gem can be found from a less established league, but that doesn't mean we should discount everyone from there off the bat. Still, only will be interested if there's more reviews / information about the guy... since I have no access / interest in the SPL and their matches.

Point is good players need not originate from higher echelons of clubs. Yeah, there will always be the gems and the ones that look like gems but on closer inspection is actually just some glass. But at the same time, can't just discount everyone from lower leagues. Of course, not saying we should take a look at everyone. Just let the scouts do tuh thang.

Now where was this poster that said we shouldn't consider SPL players.. anyone seen him That's me. I stand by my stance that the SPL is not a barometer for a decent player. Now that he's turned it on against Barcelona, different matter. Just a bit of pulling legs mate , we all want the best players playing for Man Utd so doesn't really matter Not just against Barca , even the last CL game he was good and has been so far decent. As i said earlier , with our purse strings a lot tighter if we can pick a genuine talent even if its from crappy places for a lesser value then by all means lets do so. ( that's a BIG IF btw)

He's rejected Celtics contract offer so it seems if he is an option January would be a good time to go for him. Yes it'd mean he ain't going to be eligible for the CL but does that really matter, if we are going to be realistic we ain't going to win it unless we go on an incredibly lucky run like Chelsea did last year so it's worth a punt now rather than waiting until the summer when there will be more interest.

Neil Lennon in being a maniac shocker:
Celtic: Victor Wanyama worth £25m, says Neil Lennon
Celtic's Neil Lennon has valued Victor Wanyama at £25m after it was confirmed that the Kenya midfielder has rejected the offer of a new contract. But the manager insists that Celtic are "under no pressure to sell" the 21-year-old he rates good enough to play for Barcelona. "£25m," said Lennon when asked to put a value on the player. "Wanyama has the world at his feet. "But his feet are here and they won't be going anywhere unless we say so." The midfielder joined Celtic in July 2011 in a £900,000 move from Belgian top-flight club Beerschot, signing a four-year contract. Wanyama said he had rejected an approach from Aston Villa to move to Celtic Park and his performances for the Scottish champions have led to him being linked with other English Premier League clubs.
Wanyama back in training with Celtic ahead of Saturday's visit by Kilmarnock Asked if his £25m price tag was realistic, Lennon replied: "I don't know, but it is what I value him at. "I think he is a wonderful talent and he can only get better." Wanyama was praised for his performance against Barcelona, when Celtic were within seconds of holding the Spanish side to a draw in their Champions League Group G game at the Nou Camp. Asked if he thought the midfielder was good enough to play for Tuesday's opponents, Lennon replied: "I think he is, yes. "If bids come in, we are under no pressure to sell, which is where we want to be with him at the minute. "We don't have to sell him because he is on a long-term contract." Lennon expressed disappointment that Rob Moore had gone public to say that the contract offer fell short of his expectations. "Unfortunately, for some reason, Victor's agent and representative has come out and made public that they have turned down a contract," said the Celtic boss. "I am not sure Victor has turned it down. He has not spoken to me. "A month ago, he went on record saying how happy he was at the club and I have no reason to disbelieve that. "I was actually with his representative in Barcelona on Tuesday and had a brief chat and there was no discussion of him having turned down a new contract. "So this has come out of the blue and I am disappointed that this has come out in public. "We don't want to do our negotiations in public." Lennon said it was up to chief executive Peter Lawwell whether to re-open negotiations. "We may go back to him again, but we have offered him a significant pay rise," the manager added. "We don't have to do that, but we feel it is reward for his performances. "It is credit to the club and the board and I agree with that philosophy of rewarding players for performances."

Keane went from the Irish league to top flight football with Forest (who were better than us at the time) If you call us winning the league at a canter the season before signing Keane, as Forest being better than us, then yes.

Keane went from the Irish league to top flight football with Forest (who were better than us at the time) If you call us winning the league at a canter the season before signing Keane, as Forest being better than us, then yes. When Keane signed for Forest, they were better than us, not when he signed for us. As should have been obvious from the "Keane went from the Irish league to Forest" part. Forest signed Keane in 1990, In '89-90 they finished 9th to our 13th. The season before they were 3rd to our 11th. So yes, when they took a risk and signed an unknown kid from a shit league, they were a better them than we were. That's kinda the whole point I was making, that good teams shouldn't just discount a player because of the league he plays in. I was thinking of United players that made that step, obviously Keane didn't come to us as an unknown, but he did when he made his first move to England. And on the 25 million thing, all managers do that. If Celtic would accept 10 million for this kid, Lennon's hardly likely to come out and say it is he? He wants as much as he can possibly get, or to keep him at the club, setting a hugely inflated fee is a good way to go about those two things.

I have it taped. I've watched about 20 mins and he's everywhere. Anyone can have one big game against that Barca midfield (though few do) but to do it twice is a testament to the guys talent. And he's a kid as well. I'm sold.
