Quite a few stories popping up about us being linked with him due to his contract running out at the end of the season. Seems he won't be signing a new contract with Chelsea and he can sign a pre-contract agreement in January.
For me he's probably still the best LB in the world so if we could get a couple of years out of him I think it's a no brainer. That'd then give time for Blackett / possibly Fabio to come through. Only downside is he's a bit of a twat and the whole Rio thing but then again plenty of top players are twats.

As for in the rest of the world? Lahm, Schmelzer, Alba, Coentrao, Marcelo, Balzaretti, Luis at Atletico Madrid. All on par, at least. When he's fit (currently out for three months, before you say he doesn't even play for Madrid), Coentrao's the best in the world. Watch him last season, he was a different level.

Without going into whether he is or isn't the best. Why.
We have Evra ( as much i slate him for his poor showings, are we sure that he will never come back).whom we haven't sold, we just bought Buttner , Fabio on loan and then there is Blackett.
First of i'd rather we bought someone we need in a position that needs attention, second for the salary that could be paid to him , i'd rather have it split to pay Nani and for another Signing we may bring.
He could at best offer us 2 more years, provided his knees keep good, Baines could offer 5-6.

Ashley Cole's strenght has always been going forwards, defending he's good but not great. That's why Evra used to be streets ahead of him. Coentrao IS INJURED. Christ, I even said so in my post. Ronaldo got criticism from Real Madrid fans, is he not an unbelievably good player? |

If he signed for us in the summer he still wouldn't get ahead of Cole. Surely that tells you something in itself, he's never played for a top 4 club, why if he's good as you claim hasn't one of them signed him?
Do you not read? I didn't say anything about him being injured, all I stated was that even when fit, he still doesn't get ahead of Marcelo in the team. He was on a 'different level' yet was still second choice left back, hmm... Hardly the same is it, Ronaldo is already a world class player, he's criticised for things like not celebrating, he's not criticised for consistently average performances and being unable to maintain a first team place, which Coentrao is.
