Dont care how many of these 400 or 500 teams score nowadays , that 99 semi is the the greatest odi match ever ! Surely the 5th ODI in 2006 between SA and Aus is right up there, both teams broke a major record that day. Incredible game. That game is a milestone in ODI cricket. Can never ever be forgotten.

In neural speak they often talk of Flashbulb Memories, where a moment is so impactful that you're able to recall the circumstances under which you heard the news/witnessed the events (e.g. Diana's accident, 9/11). The 438 Match is right up there for me sporting-wise (alongside the 99 Cup Final + Stransky's drop-goal in 95), I was in a pub in Buenos Aires on a rugby tour.

I had a family commitment all day and was watching the game intermittently on the telly with them. After the Aussie innings we pretty much switched off and didn’t bother. The drive home was about 20 minutes and as soon as we were 5 minutes in we got the call about Gibbs heroics. Raced home and managed to catch the final 15 overs. Scintillating.

If there is one thing to know in cricket, its you never count the Aussies out.
India was the best team in the tournament, but credit to Australia, really stepped up and delivered in final.

You will probably hate me for this but I was at the 99 final and the 95 rugby final… I don’t have any claims to fame but that’s as close as I can get!!
