We sold Pique back to Barca for about 5mill..... I'm not sure what your point is on this...so we sold him for 5 mill....what's the relevance? And what is he worth now? Not even sure what the relevance of his current worth is but there ya go...

You said we released him - released generally means for free.
The point is we very very rarely get it wrong with youngsters - Pique and Rossi were deemed surplus to requirements at the time and it has been proven correct.
The only one who looks to be a mistake is Pogba - but then our midfield is dong better at the mo.

and what a Bargain that 5mil was to Barca Should have tagged a clause on him when we sold him. i.e. 100 and more games, +£5million; 25 international games +£10million, etc. Not like they couldn't afford it! In fact we should tag a clause on everyone we sell!

Nah, the boy was really homesick at the time - United aren't like that.

True. letting him go back to Barca was the right thing to do
Same with letting Rossi go to get on with his career at a club where he'd get in the side
These are players we might look at now and say I wish he was here, especially Pique, but it's a different set of circumstances.

Not saying we shouldn't let him go back, but we should have tried to get more for our players. We always never seem too bothered trying to get more worth for our players from the buying clubs, like other clubs do. The only person we did was with Ronnie, other than that, I always thought we "undersold" our players.

Pique is where he should be. Far, far away from our back four and in his cushy, never has to really defend second-rate League.

right, lets clear this up: Pique WANTED TO LEAVE as he knew he wasn't going to get ahead of Rio and Vidic at the time. Which was right - they were one of the best pairings in the world at the time. When his old club came calling United agreed to sell him. What were they going to do - force him to stay? At the same time,Evans was more than willing to wait for his chance, which is why he stayed. Rossi had RVN, Rooney, Saha & Smith to contend with. And we were all hoping Ole would come back too. He was given a couple loan spells but didnt do too much. The club received a good offer for him and took it. Forlan was written off here too and did better in Spain - were the club wrong to sell him too? Jim is spot on - "if a reserve player isn't in the first team it's because he's either not good enough or not ready, it's really as simple as that, and in rare cases because there's an issue or a problem with the player." We sold Rossi in 2007, we sold RVN in 2006, so he didn't have RVN to contend with. We also sold Smith, who was by now a defensive midfielder, in 2007, so he didn't have Smith to contend with. Solksjaer then retired in the summer of 07, so again he didn't have him to contend with either. He had Rooney, Saha and the newly arrived Tevez in his way, except Saha was always injured, so he could have been a very useful backup to those 2. He went on loan to Parma in Jan 07, they were in a relegation struggle at the time and he was just 19, yet he scored 9 goals in 19 games that played a huge role in keeping them up. Don't know how you can say he 'Didn't do much'? Whyever he left it was a mistake, he could easily have stayed, would clearly have contributed to our team, and was allowed to leave on the cheap. Even if he demanded to go, which I've never heard, we should have asked for double the money we got. It's shocking that he got only 14 games (scoring 4 goals) for our first team when Macheda has had 33 appearances (scoring 5)

he went to play for the spanish bolton wanderers. the top clubs weren't knocking on the door for him, he wasn't that good. not good enough to get in ahead of the likes of rooney, van nistelrooy or tevez.

He didn't need to be good enough to be a guaranteed starter. Just good enough to get the occasional game and be an option on the bench, his record showed he was good enough for that. Are Hernandez or Wellbeck good enough to be guaranteed starters ahead of Rooney and RVP? Was Solskjaer good enough to get regular games ahead of Cole and Yorke? They play/played a role in a squad, he could have done the same. He only had Rooney and Tevez realisitically ahead of him (RVN was gone, Smith and Solskjaer going, Ronaldo still played on the wing and Saha a semi permanent crock).
If he wanted out then ok, but we let him go on the cheap, he showed at Parma what he was capable of and continued that at Villareal.

2004-05: He was 17 when we bought him, so he did have to contend with RVN, Smith, Rooney & Saha in his first season - even tho he only played twice in the league cup they were ahead of him, which was the point about him not getting game time
2005-06: It was his (and Smith's) 2nd season in which Smith moved back to midfield - so he still had RVN, Rooney & Saha to oust. He still made his debut (and 11 other appearances that season)
2006-07He spent 6 mths on loan to Newcastle then 6 mths in Italy - he left for Newcastle a month after we sold RVN.
He was then sold in the summer of 2007 - a couple weeks before Tevez came in.
Where was i wrong, other than the loan spell which doesnt make a difference??
