Drives me mental that the Lions keep bringing him back there are other coaches who play much more exciting rugby who would jump at the opportunity. I honestly dont know why he bothered to bring Gregor Townsend on tour if all the out half does is kick the shit out of the ball. Obliged by public opinion, probably. Gatland's squad selection is always baffling when you compare players to expected style of rugby.

Fascinating game yesterday, expected the Lions to come back very strongly in the 2nd half due to the Boks having played almost no rugby before the series since the WC final in 2019!

Biased obviously, but if the IRFU would ever stop being Munster/Leinster-obsessed wankers and gave McCall the chance at the Ireland gig for a couple of years, I would like to see how he does with international rugby.

Assuming you're referring to Mark McCall, the DoR at Saracens? Interesting! This is almost certainly the last tour for Gatland, and he's currently not done badly (won in Australia, and drew in and against a brilliant NZ side). Will be curious to see who gets the nod!

Farrell hasn’t done much with Ireland and Jones is a maniac. Townsend probably as he has Lions history and Scotland play good stuff, unlike the shite served up by Gatland.

Gatland has been a success. But when you think of his teams, what were the great tries? Two break aways by O’Brien (created by Williams) and North’s solo effort. Bar those, he’s never done anything with the backs. It’s effective but caveman stuff.

BTW-
Jay, as a reasonable person, surely you’re embarrassed by Erasmus’ behaviour? The water boy stuff is pathetic but his video was a disgrace and absolutely affected the way the officials called that yesterday.

The water boy stuff is pathetic but his video was a disgrace and absolutely affected the way the officials called that yesterday. Look, regardless of whether I condone his behavior (I don't, to be clear), it's difficult to watch the clip (I did at 1.25x speed) and not at least feel the Boks were heavily hard done by - I watched the game last weekend, and in places it was reminiscent of the 2011 WC QF debacle vs Australia. It was horrific, and the differences (e.g. the ridiculous lengths of advantage) evoked a totally hopeless atmosphere for every Bok supporter - one of those days where you just know that you're not getting any decisions. It absolutely affected the referrees yesterday, but so too did Gatland querstioning the integrity of a TMO who had been selected by World Rugby (and who turned in an absolute horror performance on the day) before the first test. Ultimately, Rassie has done all he can for SA Rugby, and even if he's punished many in SA will still appreciate his work (even the video drama), as the Boks have on many occassions had to suffer consistent treatment and decisions based on either an inferior impression of the team, or a ''dirty''/overly-physical reputation. Looking at both the tries scored last night (and the final in 2019), I'm happy those impressions are changing. It sets up a bloody good final test now, I don't think a series has ever been tied going into the final match in SA!

The thing is though, Gatland could just as easily release a video of yesterday’s game and selectively take clips to suit his agenda. I’m sure he wouldn’t have to look very far to show how Kolbe is red carded in virtually 100% of that situation. But you just don’t do it because it’s pathetic and completely against the spirit of the game, which from top to bottom is based on respect for the officials. It’s one of the areas that rugby can rightly claim the high ground in comparison to other sports. He’s completely undermined that and really should be suspended by the IRB immediately. It’s shocking that he hasn’t been already.

It’s shocking that he hasn’t been already. I get what you're saying, and perhaps Gatland might be able to put something similar together - no doubt Kolbe was lucky to escape a red yesterday, just as the bloke who tipped Le Roux over the 90 degrees somehow managed to escape without any card the week before. Let's see what happens, though admittedly the ''bringing rugby into disrepute'' angle hasn't caught on at all down here in all honesty, people have had it with big matches being butchered by officials and having to just ''deal with it''. Looking at the ratios on the clips online, you can see most people genuinely believe it was justified (see here . The B&I Lions tour is a big thing, it comes around only every 12 years, so perhaps (definitely) Rassie was trying to ensure that at the very least the teams get a fair crack in the 2nd test. You could (and should) argue that both teams have had their share of favourable decisions now, so it will be interesting to see how the next 80 mins plays out!

Both sides certainly have had favourable decisions. Only one side released a video moaning about it. I guess that’s my point. I never had an issue with SA rugby before this and indeed was obviously delighted you stopped England in the WC. His actions have tarnished you guys now though.

The Lions for me when I was younger was seeing the very best of the Home Nations getting together for 'fantasy rugby'. Winning was important but so was the style of rugby. Gatland has made it all about attritional results.

However Geech’s side in 2009 could hold their heads high. They were desperately unlucky not to tie that series and played some outstanding stuff, including some fantastic tries by the backs. What will this tours legacy be? Bigger kicking it into the stratosphere from first phase ball, just outside the SA 22. Wretched.

Should be bouncing in the local tomorrow. Still don,t know who will win its to close. I was woried about the Boks not playing for so long & the first test showed it. Last week 2nd half they got it on again(helped by the Lions game plan)I thought Duan Vermuelen & RG( arrgea )both missing would weaken us a fair bit & now with Faf & Peter Steph also missing doesnt help. We have very good back ups but those four are all pretty special. Cant wait Go Boka Boka
