A huge part of that generation were robbo fans. Alot of guys in there 50s would say he was the complete midfielder and I can only take there word for it. That's the thing about Peles death, to a specific generation players like Pele were idolised but I do think his generation were real pioneers, players like Pele were to football what Elvis was to Rock N Roll, they brought football into the modern age and paved the way for the great players to come. Pele inspired an entire generation of Brazilian players, especially those incredible teams of the 80s and they subsequently inspired that talent pool of the 90s. The roots of Brazilian football very much start with players like Pele. That's an incredible legacy and one worth celebrating. Robson is massively underrated. I even think he's underrated by the club and by a lot of our own fans below a certain age. If he was 10 years younger and in his prime during the early PL era he would be seen as a god and have a statue. To think he was as good as he was in spite of the injuries and drinking is astonishing. Think that happens with every following generation. I see it all the time now with people who start the Scholes/Gerrard/Lampard debate. So many trying to downplay how good Scholes truly was cos he didn’t score ‘X’ amount of goals or have ’X’ amount of assists; as if they’re the only barometers to measure a world class midfielder. There’s no real replacement for experiencing and watching every single week how good these players were. So I as much as I’ve read about, listened to my dad talk about and watched plenty of footage from the Robsons et al, I’ll never be able to truly appreciate him like fans who witnessed it fully.

That's probably the main reason he's not thought of in the same capacity as Gazza despite his career titles. WCs really mattered back then.

If you haven’t watched it there’s a documentary called Robbo which is well worth seeing …

Robbo is revered on Teesside. Brought some absolutely insane players to Middlesbrough during his tenure.

That has absolutely floored me.
Italian football seemed so exotic when I was growing up. Lightyears ahead of what we had over here at the time. Vialli was a massive part of that.

Gutted. Epitomises the Football Italia era and seemed like a really decent bloke.
RIP.

Vialli was a class act. I didn't even know he was ill. I feel bad for Mancini. He's lost two of his closest friends to cancer within a matter of weeks.

Spurs v forest from 1979 on itv 4(the big match revisited)
Some songs from the crowd you don’t hear these days. ‘1-0,1-0,1-0,1-0’ and ‘Can you hear us on the box’.
Some of the normal tackles would be red cards now.
And glen hoddle has just scored a stunner.
