Cesc is in a apparent dilemma as to whether he should stay on or move now ( also to a direct Arsenal Rival ). Also barca are in the same boat to sell a player who has been so much barca mould. They don't have much about Thiago and its almost certain if you go by various reports.
But we are looking to get both of them , with Cesc on top of Moyes List

From skysports: Transfer news: Barcelona midfielder Thiago plays down Manchester United link Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara has refused to be drawn on rumours that Manchester United are considering a summer move for his services. The Red Devils have been linked with a swoop for the 22-year-old, but he has insisted that he will not consider his future until after the upcoming Under-21 European Championship. "I just live my life and I am very happy," the Spain international told reporters. "I enjoy it in Barcelona because I have lived through some great times but we will see what happens after the Euros. "Any player is used to living with rumours about him and they just cannot affect you." Thiago's buy-out clause at Camp Nou is understood to have dropped from €90million to €18million after he failed to play 30 minutes or more in 60 per cent of Barca's games this season. United's interest prompted goalkeeper David de Gea to state that he would like his Spain Under-21 team-mate to join him at Old Trafford, but Thiago brushed off the comments. "All players want the best players in their team. I could say I hope that he comes to Barca in the same way he says things about me," he added. "I just think he was having a bit of fun and not too much should be read into it." Par for the course.

Of the two, Fabregas would be the safer option as he is a known quantity in the Premier League: you know that you will get a good amount of goals and assists from him from midfield.
I still have this feeling that we may experiment with a three-man midfield next season, which for me would get the best out of Carrick.

From what I have seen Thiago is a similar sort of player to Fabregas so IMO it would be pointless signing both, if we are going to sign two midfielders we would be better off signing players who offer something different.

I Don't think we did - we saw him excel in an under-performing midfield and with the right partner he could reach another level

could it be possible that carricks passing rang would be best utilised further up the pitch? if thats the case then maybe we can look at more defensive minded midfielders and allow carrick to rotate with cleverly

That's not a bad idea but i'd prefer him sitting further back dictating play, bringing opposition players forward by holding the ball before either passing out side or passing to a creative player (Thaigo / Fabrigas / Kagawa) who's just floated into the space free'd up.

ok but lets say we had someone who can distribute the ball well but can also really get stuck in, that would mean carrick and move up and not to be funny but at his age it is not a bad idea maybe. i know this guy is a bad boy etc however there is no denying that with the price tage of 7/8 million he would be a bargain for what he can do, i'm talking yan mvilla, at that price we can also get in strootman whom although i havent seen play the reports have been positive from those that have seen him. that would be a max outlay of about 25 million on 2 young classy operators

After the season he just had, Carrick should be allowed to do and play whatever way he damn likes.

M' Vila? Come on now.
Carrick is fine where he is. That is his role and I think he is comfortable there too, looking at the way he plays. Our creative Shinji , if used right next season will benefit immensely from his passing range and in turn RVP will benefit from Shinji's passing. Carrick needs a partner that's about it. Fabregas wouldn't do too badly.
