Martinez later retracted his comments about supporting Benitez. He said he was misquoted. And I think Sir Alex likes him. Wouldn't have sent him Cleverley and Henriquez if he didn't. sounds about right. There is definitely something up if he can't get this team - which looks good towards the end of the season - motivated earlier on. i'm not so sure it's a case of them not being motivated early, then again maybe it is, they are a small-town club with a diverse mix of players and an ethic that "good players shouldn't be scared to join us because we are happy to sell you on when a bigger club comes in" - the fact that he's consistently kept them in the league under these circumstances earns him the opportunity at a job like Everton. |

Good point was made over the celebratory dinner last night - Wigan have a basically constant turnover of players. It could be that getting the important ones to fully bed in and the departures' gaps filled takes until the second half of the season. Although, if it takes a manager 7 months to re-jig his squad then it's not a great sign either. |

Aye been quite a few years since a relegation battle hasn't gone to the wire. Like the championship last day of the season that was gripping, this won't be. Hope Spurs finish 5th so Bale can weigh up his options of when he wants to actually sign for us |
