Forlan and Hernandez. Veron. I remember when he signed, I couldn't get my head around the fact he had signed for us. Sublime player.

I didn't want to start a separate thread for this and here seems like an appropriate home... So I was pondering the other day that we really let Nani go far too soon...and then I got to thinking there are a number of others who fit into that category... So here's my list...fell free to add or argue... In no particular order... Nani Rafael Jaap Stam Becks CR7 Kagawa Ruud? (possibly but the thing with him and Ronnie got in the way) I'll stop here but I know there are others... Oh, and Eric but that wasn't our choice... Edit: Ander Herrera...how could I forget him...loved his enthusiasm... Between you and smithy you're trying to Lecter us into killing ourselves, aren't you?

Edit: Ander Herrera...how could I forget him...loved his enthusiasm... Was the right decision to let him go when we did all things considered, but Paul McGrath. One of the best centre backs I've seen, his form for Villa and Ireland was top, top drawer. So many personal demons and injuries but boy what a player when fit. Jonny Evans. Not every one's cup of tea I get that, but why sell him and keep Jones, Smalling and Rojo? He's better than all 3. Rossi. Cracking player, would have loved seeing him make a career at OT.

Stam obviously a big mistake. Becks leaving sucked but without him going Ronaldo probably wouldn't have grown as he did so it worked out. Ronaldo was desperate to go, we couldn't have kept him. Kagawa - too soon. Ruud was the right decision - still a top player but he needed to go so Ronaldo and Rooney could flourish. Just a terrible shame he only won one title here. Herrera should have had his contract tied up before PSG ever made him that mad offer, I doubt his wage demands would have been near what he is earning now. The biggest one for me in recent years is Chicharito. We sorely needed goals many times after he left and he could have provided them. He would have done anything for the club too.

Agree with pretty much all of this... It's amazing though that the players we let go (above) would have all been pretty much the United POTY today...just shows how far we have fallen... They were so good and we are so meh...

One bad year can happen to everybody in their career,” Lukaku told Ian Wright in a YouTube chat. “It was just done for me. You know what happened behind the scenes, it was just done. For me, it was done. "It was a difficult situation where, for myself, I had to make a decision where I have to go somewhere where I can learn other aspects of my game and work with somebody that wanted me as well. "Ole wanted me to stay but I told him I was over. I didn't have the energy. All credit to him because he's been a man and he helped me make the move away." www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-transfer-romelu-lukaku-17952529

I mean honestly, how many of them would’ve lasted 1 week with Keane et al raising expectations each time they stepped on the pitch. They feel like because they’re good at one aspect of the game that they’re untouchable and above reproach.

I still say when asked for my favorite United team, that the '94 team were the dogs bollocks. Imagine the modern fanny of a player trying to go toe to toe with Schmeichel, Bruce, Pallister, Keane, Ince, Robson, McClair, Cantona and Hughes. It'd be a bloodbath.

I won a signed United shirt from a supporters trust Q&A event with Norman Whiteside in Macc a few months back. Was good to win at the time so thought I'd give it to my old man as a Christmas present. Normally he'd be buzzing with something like that but he just felt so much apathy towards the squad at the time that it's not been opened since.

Reading on the BBC about Iconic Starting 11's that hardly ever actually played together (turns out Working From Home is more From Home than Working).
Turns out that:
Schmeichel, Parker, Bruce, Pallister, Irwin, Kanchelskis, Ince, Keane, Giggs, Hughes, Cantona, only ever started 6 league games, and just 12 in all comps! I find that mental!! I thought that was rolled out every other week.
Never lost a game, only drew one, the Charity Shield with Arsenal which we won on pens. In the league, that starting 11 beat Spurs 1-0, Everton 1-0, QPR 3-2, Sheff Wed 5-0, Leeds 2-0 and Ipswich 2-1.
And then onto the next team:
Schmeichel, Neville, Johnsen, Stam, Irwin, Beckham, Scholes, Keane, Giggs, Cole, Yorke, only ever started 1 single league game! Beat Coventry 1-0. The only other game that 11 started was the 2-0 over Inter in the Champions League.
I mean I know squad rotation played a big part in 1999 but still, I would have gone for that 11 as our usual starting team, to find out they played twice, ever? That's mind blowing.
