Too many players are being selected that are not playing for their own club but happen to be a big club over those in the championship that are regulars for their team.
From the England games I have seen at the tournament, and it is still reflected in the senior team, there appears to be no link-up play between players; as though they have never even trained together let alone played together. We seem to produce too few players that have football intelligence.
Pearce in charge of development is depressing, instead of the players being allowed to express themselves he plays a negative 451.

my 2-penneth wotrh on this issue: the FA need to look in-house for the failings of the National Side (at all levels)
it is an easy (yet true) excuse that the reason why Ing-ger-land always fail at the senior level is that there is no mentality of winning in the team, and an obvious lack of respect for the strip by the more established players (see how many players drop out for 'meaningless' friendlies then play for their clubs, etc.)but why is that?
equally there is the reality that the junior sides cant put out the best players for tournaments, hence cannot have a realistic shot at winning said tournaments. but why is that, also?
both (and many more ills) lie directly at the FA's door IMHO. why should the senior players respect the England call-up's, when at a young age if they show any potential they are encouraged to skip tournaments to train (not necessarily play) with the senior side (eg. the Ox, Jones, Wellbeck and to a lesser extent Rodwell all could have been selected for the U21's, but were reserved for the senior side, in the past the same has happened with Walcott, Rooney, etc.)if they are encouraged to do this from the start of their careers, is it so surprising that at the first sight of a more appealing footballing option (the CL for example, or a league title run-in) these same players ignore the senior squad?
and equally, by pulling them from the Junior sides, you rob them of that tournament experience/pressure. hence when they get to a senior tournament, they freeze when the going gets tough. we compare to Spain, but really there is no comparison. the patriotism shown by the Spanish (and Italian, Dutch, German, etc.)players is leagues ahead of anything the English are showing. Our very own DDG is playing his FIFTH international tournament (U17 Euro's {win}, U17 World Cup {2nd}, U21 Euro's {win}, U23 Olympics, U21 Euro's {current}), in a side that includes Thiago from Barca and Isco from Malaga, both established players at their respective clubs. these players show what it means to represent their country, and remember this is not new, Mata & Sergio Busquets both wanted to join the Olympics side last year, having just won the world cup. for them playing for their country means a lot.
Pearce may have a point by blaming the players, but his Bosses and Himself are far from blameless. he is tactically clueless, and his bosses seem hell bent on undercutting their own efforts at the first chance they get. if the national side are to ever have a chance at winning a major tournament, they would need to sort out, AND HAVE A CONCRETE PLAN/PROTOCOL on how the junior side are developed. if they cant get that right, to expect anything more from he senior side is just a pipe dream.

Spain won 3-0 but the Dutch played their reserves. Semis are:
Italy vs Holland
Spain vs Norway
Italy-Holland will be close but think the Dutch have a wee bit more firepower. It'll be close though.

De Gea was pulling impossible saves after impossible saves. I want to say it's a fantastic performance, but it was a a performance which he puts in and out every week for us. Glad we have him, no one's better than him at his age.

Well played Spanish Dave.

So Spain swept Norway aside earlier, winning 3-0, Isco was top class again, he's so dangerous in the final third with Thiago dictating proceedings in the middle of the park again. Morata scored another as a sub, looks better than Rodrigo imo and would expect him to start in the final.
Italy and Netherlands is 0-0 at half time with Netherlands having the better of it so far, Strootman has impressed me more in the last game and a half than in the first, he still lacks a bit of mobility for me and it'd be a bit of worry that he could get caught out with the pace of the Premier League but he's certainly very composed on the ball and a nice passer, I've warmed more to the prospect of signing him anyway.

Haha, well Netherlands haven't had it all their own way so there's definitely still a chance for Italy, Netherlands just had the better of the first half.
