Great performance and win from the Youths. Shame PSV won as that means we are out.

Great performance and win from the Youths. Shame PSV won as that means we are out. Just seen the goals. Pity we are out by the head to head rule and finished 3rd, but at least we went out on a high. Hope the senior players see this result and do the same tonight against Wolfsburg.

08/12/2015 16:55, Report by Adam Marshall UNDER-19S: WOLFSBURG 0 UNITED 2 UEFA Youth League | 8 December 2015 | Scorers: Tuanzebe 43, Kehinde 56 Manchester United finished the UEFA Youth League group stage with a flourish by condemning Wolfsburg to a 2-0 defeat and bottom spot in the table.
However, the win was not enough to continue the Reds' involvement in the competition as CSKA Moscow failed to beat PSV Eindhoven in the other tie. A rare goal by Axel Tuanzebe and a second by Tosin Kehinde earned a fully-deserved win at the VfL Stadion. United looked excellent in the first half with Callum Gribbin and Marcus Rashford linking up to cause problems in the home defence. Rashford latched onto a poor backpass on 12 minutes, following some good harrying by Gribbin, and rounded Phillip Menzel. The keeper clipped the Reds skipper but he stayed on his feet and was unable to convert from a tight angle, firing into the side-netting. Coach Nicky Butt certainly felt it was a penalty and it was a huge let-off for Wolfsburg. Anton-Leander Donkor, who scored at Leigh Sports Village, stabbed wide and Amara Conde's free-kick was tipped over by George Dorrington as the Germans made in-roads to the visiting goal. Ibay May should have done better with a clear header from a set-piece that he could not direct on target but United were very much in the game and Gribbin skipped clear on the right to win a corner as half-time approached. The no.10 took it himself and it appeared to flick off Devonte Redmond at the near post before Tuanzebe forced a fine save out of Menzel. The rebound fell to the big defender and his effort crashed off the underside of the bar and over the line. Dorrington breathed a sigh of relief when his punch was miskicked by Ismal Azzaoui when an early chance presented itself in the second half. However, the Reds continued to impress and Matty Willock's perfectly-weighted through-ball released Tim Fosu-Mensah. The Dutchman's finish was kept out by Menzel but Rashford pounced and showed neat skill before the ball eventually fell to Kehinde and his low drive rolled into the corner of the net. Gribbin could have added a third when sweeping over the top following some fine work by Fosu-Mensah down the left before the home side went close on a couple of occasions. Paul Jaeckel rose to meet a corner but could not keep his header down and Conde's attempt from outside the box was saved by Dorrington. Rashford raced clear with five minutes left but was twice denied by Menzel from a difficult angle after his speed again unsettled the men in white. Substitute Alper Kara wasted one opportunity in the final stages and Murat Saglam struck a post with virtually the last kick of the game after Callum Whelan slipped inside the box. This was a tremendous finale from Butt's side, who at least showed their true colours in the UEFA Youth League following a couple of heavy defeats. United: Dorrington; Warren (Kenyon 76), Tuanzebe, Williams, Hamilton; Gribbin, Fosu-Mensah, Willock, Redmond, Kehinde (Whelan 63); Rashford. Subs not used: Byrne, Dunne, Sang, Boonen, Diedrick-Roberts. www.manutd.com/en/Players-And-Staff/The-Academy/Academy-News/2015/Dec/uefa-youth-league-match-report-wolfsburg-v-manchester-united.aspx

Chelsea won their 2nd title in a row, beating PSG in the final.
Sadly (sic) due to the senior team not qualifying for the CL & due to their academy not winning the U18 league, they will not be able to defend their title this season.
Wonder how Leicesters youth team will get on?

So, as usual, the Youth will be in a group that mirrors the Senior Team. Going to be some interesting ties for them. Be interesting to see how they fare & who makes the squad.
On the other side of the draw (The part that doesn't mirror the CL Groups), there are some interesting teams competing - The likes of Inter, Kiev, Bordeaux, Ajax, Zagreb, Bursa, Molde & Bucharest alongside teams from smaller nations who normally wouldn't get a chance to compete against other European sides.
Great to see UCD in there. As well as a team from Luxembourg, Georgia, Montenegro, etc.
The draw takes place for this part of the comp on the 29th August.
Qualified teams: Internazionale Bordeaux Krasnodar Dynamo Kyiv Ajax Bursaspor Sparta Prague Dinamo București Red Bull Salzburg Lokomotiva Zagreb Legia Warsaw Shakhtyor Soligorsk Hammarby Molde Maccabi Haifa Esbjerg Brodarac Kairat Ludogorets Razgrad Nitra Honvéd Zimbru Chișinău Breiðablik Saburtalo Tbilisi KäPa Željezničar Vllaznia Shkodër Shkëndija UCD Liepāja F91 Dudelange Sutjeska Nikšić

Squad will probably be this:
GK: Ilias Moutha-Sebtaoui, Alex Fojticek, Jacob Carney, James Thompson
DF: Jake Kenyon, Thomas Sang, Jake Barrett, Max Dunne, Luca Ercolani, Lee O'Connor, Harry Spratt, George Tanner, Di'Shon Bernard, Ethan Laird, Brandon Williams
MF: Indy Boonen, Aidan Barlow, Ethan Galbraith, James Garner, Dylan Levitt, Dion McGhee
AT: Josh Bohui, Angel Gomes, Nishan Burkart, Tahith Chong, Millen Baars, D'Mani Bughail-Mellor, Largie Ramazani
Only 28 players, out of a maximum of 40, but i can't see the club naming any of the 14-15 age-group players in the squad.
EDIT:
Oooh, we can name up to 3 players who were born a year earlier to the qualifying date (which is "Born on or after 1st January 1999") - so i reckon we will go for Matthew Olosunde, Tyrell Warren & Tosin Kehinde.
