Have you seen The Wire? I just moved into my new house this weekend, a lot of my stuff has been in storage for nearly two years. Opened my DVD box, and there was both, The Sopranos and The Wire! I don't have any Internet for a few weeks, so I will be binging those two! We watched the 1st episode of the Wire and just never ended up watching more. It's all on Foxtel so can easy download, we'll have to make that our next series to get into Over a year later we finally started watching the Wire again. Onto the 4th season now, binged it over the last week or so. It's superb. Not sure why it's taken this long for us to sit down and watch it. It doesn't top The Soprano's for me to be honest, and I think Breaking Bad still comes above it. Series 1 - 5 of GOT too, if that had ended as strongly as the first few seasons I think it would be the greatest TV show ever made. But yeah, none of that is to put the Wire down, those 3 shows are the pinnacle for me, and the Wire isn't far off them.

Incredible show. Haven't started season 3 yet, waiting for more episodes first, don't like to wait weekly for another episode.

I think that The Wire is about as close to perfect television as you can get, the five seasons were so wide-ranging in their respective storylines. Really really sad news about Michael K.Williams, he was my absolute favourite character, although ‘Bubs’ ran him close!

Finished the Wire.
Maybe a controversial statement, but season 5 really diminished some of the shine of the previous 4 for me.
*** Spoilers for a show that ended 15 years ago *****
You built Omar up so much, only for him to be killed by some little 9 YO scroat in a shop? Come on man. He either dies in a blaze of glory, or lives on. That pissed me off.
The police need funding, so McNulty pretends a serial killer is killing the homeless by messing with accidental deaths? Seriously?
Still an absolutely great show, no doubt. But I'm not having that S5 was a good season of TV.

I think The Wire is pretty overrated, honestly. It's not US Office levels of overrated, but I don't think it's the best show ever made, or close to it. My opinion might've been skewed by the fact that I binged The Wire right for the first time after I binged The Sopranos, which I preferred. I don't know.

The fact that you’ve built up this legendary figure, seemingly hellbent on taking down Marlowe and his crew one by one, only to have it taken away by some wee shitstain, is fantastic. Because real life isn’t like a western. I hated it when it happened for about half an hour and then was blown away by the guts to do it. The serial killer thing was a real bum note and I think if they had their time over they’d change it. 4 incredible seasons, 5th one was pretty hit and miss.

I like that in shows too generally, too cliché when the obvious happens, so good to throw a curve ball. Looking back it probably was the right thing to do, it certainly came as a shock. I was going to say Omar surviving the leap off the balcony was too over the top too, but I was reading about S5 afterwards and that was based on a real event, except the guy jumped from even higher up, so fair enough I suppose. Unrelated note, started watching The Last Man On Earth last week, S1 done. It's a pretty good show if anyone not seen it. God the main character is beyond annoying though, so much so that I was close to checking out, but I googled about it and reviews say it's a big character arc for him and to keep watching as he gets a lot better.

Last Man on Earth is brilliant. Just a warning that they cancelled it after season 4. So you don't get a satisfying ending. Proper silly, funny sitcom though, with a really good concept. Think Will Forte is great in it.

Succession is superb by the way.
Considering The Wire is a topic of conversation and one of my favourite ever shows, I think Succession has the potential, by the time it's done, to be up there.

Not bleating at all, but as someone who was prescribed OxyContin prior to my spinal operations (and thereafter) from 2011-2015 ,it speaks perfectly to the absolute ease of becoming addicted to the drug;if I ran out ,which I did occasionally,I rattled like the addict I was . Man alive, it was so difficult to get off ,and nearly killed me in the process! It is a brilliant series, Michael Keaton, and the rest of the cast, particularly ‘Betsy’ were absolutely superb. The Sackler family-God damn them all- were (obviously) seen as preening and completely self-interested, which was probably quite near the mark.

Brilliant stuff so far.
