I don't think many would have have a problem with Rooney wanting to play in his prefered position. Every player wants to play where he feels most comfortable and can perform to the best of his abilities.
I think it's more down to Rooney coming out and saying he was enjoying his midfield role when he was put there. Then using it as an excuse to want to leave when it suited him. Likewise his "We need to buy the best players" rant for wanting out, then being pissed off when we sign RVP.
He says anything he thinks suits his agenda at the time, regardless if it contradicts something he said earlier. Most of what comes out of his mouth is shite spoonfed to him from Stretford.

Rooney in early goal scoring form and promptly using the media as a front to declare that he deserves to play CF is not jut selfish but pressuring DM to play him as a striker. Worth noting he will play as striker for Eng in WC aswell.
He will never be a modern day No 10 and there is a better option available. Nowhere near RVP as a forward. Who is to say we are not playing 4-4-2 only to accommodate potato and keep him sweet. Any other formation and he gets shunted out wide or on the bench. When you are as good as ronnie or RVP, why the hell should they be played out of position? That's wrong logic to try and make a counter argument.

Rumours today saying that he has refused contract talks. Please, let this be true and he's gone in the summer! I genuinely hate that prick...and wearing the armband yesterday - what a joke!

it is no surprise that he is refusing contract talks, the only reason he is still at united is because we refused to sell in the summer, if he had his own way he would already be at chelsea. our season so far and the appointment of moyes who he has had issues with in the past probably hasn't helped in convincing him to stay. it is a problem if he goes in the summer because he is one of the few top quality players that we have and will need replacing with a player of similar quality, united have struggled to sign that calibre of player in recent years so it will be interesting to see what our plan of action would be for replacing him. hopefully we will do better in terms of a replacement then we did when ronaldo was sold, because we'll need a top class player this time not another antonio valencia kind of signing...

We have players of his calibre already.
If it's a top class striker then we have Van Persie.
If it's a top class creative deep lying forward it's Kagawa. If Rooney left then maybe Kags would get a full season playing in the hole.
Or maybe we could just play Januzaj there, that role would appear to be his natural position. We replaced Ince with Butt, Hughes with Scholes, Kanchelskis with Beckham. Letting class players leave and giving talented youngsters their shirt worked for us in the past, why not again? Imagine Rooney leaves and we go with a regular front 4 of:
New winger Kagawa Januzaj Van Persie
I wouldn't be too unhappy with that myself.
A lot of the tactical inflexibility of the side comes from having to accomodate Rooney. He isn't good enough in the position he wants to play in, the deep lying forward. His touch is shit. He routinely gets easily pushed off the ball. His short passing is poor. He can play up top and score a lot of goals, as he has proven. But so does Van Persie. And you can't play 2 out and out strikers any more, at least against any decent opposition. So only one can play up top. I'd rather that one was Van Persie.
Him leaving frees up massive wages and lets the team be a lot more flexible and creative with it's tactics.
Personally, I wouldn't even care if he went to Chelsea and improved them, it'd only be for a couple of seasons anyway (no way he's still playing as a striker and scoring goals once he hits his 30's), and if they drop him deeper I'd love that, it would make them worse having him as their "Creative hub" rather than Mata, Oscar or Hazard.

Rumours today saying that he has refused contract talks. And the source is........? We're having a bad time of it, so Van Persie is off and Rooney's refused contract talks. De Gea will be off on Friday. All media bollocks if you ask me.

www.championsleague.ca/2013/12/11/real-madrid-offer-50m-plus-player-for-wayne-rooney-according-to-reports-95191-8712?Now this should make the board happy. Maybe speculation. But if true, we all know what to do. Its a no-brainer Carlo Ancelotti has firmly set his sights on the 28-year old Englishman, and is now ready to commit to a significant bid of £50m plus one of Angel Di Maria or Sami Khedira. Di Maria and Khedira are apparently players that Moyes is keen on, and one of those players plus an extra £50m will surely test the resolve of Manchester United’s desire to hold on to Rooney.

There is ZERO possibility that they will offer 50 million as well as a 25 million rated player. He's out of contract in 18 months, he's approaching 30 and he was only valued at 25 million 4 months ago. Suddenly he's worth 3 times that? Rooney's been in good form and Real can be stupid with transfers, but he hasn't been THAT good and they aren't THAT stupid.

Even the transfer market quotes his market value at 45m. Agree with your comment that he is not THAT good, but believe me RM can BE THAT stupid when it comes to money and the player they want. Defo not in Jan but possibly in summer window

Pretty sure all this is bollocks and he'll sign a new deal.
For all the hate he's received (and rightfully so), who will we replace him with? Without his contributions this season we'd be in the relegation zone.
People need to stop being rash, sure he's a cunt, we all know that, but it's not as if Welbeck or Pea would be able to make up his contribution in goals and RVP, up to now, has been either injured or out of form.
If we could bring in Lewandowski, sell Rooney & bring in Gundogan/Koke & Matic, we'd be OK. But selling Rooney & bringing in a midfielder leaves us weakened.
