Manchester United have made a €30m bid for Athletic Bilbao's Ander Herrera, according to Cadena COPE.
Manchester United have bid €30m for Athletic Bilbao's Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera, according to Cadena COPE.
You may recognise that source as the one that was previously a bearer of bad news in breaking the story that Thiago Alcantara had chosen to go to Bayern Munich, so they do have a track record of being reliable in this window.
Herrera is perhaps one of the players we're most in need of, an excellent passer capable of dictating a game but one who can also play deeper. He'd be very much in the mould of Cesc Fabregas and Thiago, who we've tried and failed to sign so far this window.
The station also say, however, that Bilbao will not negotiate unless the €36m release clause is met. This isn't too much of a leap, so if United have made this bid, it seems that paying the extra is very likely to happen with time running out.

Sign of Hernandez's future? Huh? What's this got to do with Hernandez? Got to say, I remember he was brilliant in the two legs we played against them but haven't seen an awful lot of Bilbao since. Good to be linked to someone who isn't Fellaini or Baines but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Nope, he's a midfielder. Of the playmaking variety.

Nope, he's a midfielder. Of the playmaking variety. Which we're very much in need of. As Stewart says, i do remember him playing very well at Old Trafford. Seen Herrera quite a few times and he certainly ticks all of the boxes in relation to what kind of a midfielder we need, that's for sure! He's 24 years of age, his wiki reference is below. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ander_Herrera

Don't know much about the guy so am not getting too excited. In any case this is probably his agent pushing the boat out and we are not even remotely interested. Or maybe Ed offered Bebe as a straight swap and was shot down or something. I don't know anymore.
