Fair point, wouldn't complain should it given to him. But still think Herrera deserves it. Not always down to length of time at the club though. For me a captain leads by example, fights for the team and shows passion for the club he plays for. Either one qualify under those examples however I don't think there's anybody in that squad thats more passionate than Herrera, even when he's sat on the bench he wears his heart on his sleeve. And yet look at the floundering fucking oaf we have atm. Worlds apart in comparison. Your description fits Tony perfectly, albeit I'd be happy with Herrera as a captain. 2bf my description fits either one. Either one would finally do the badge justice with the armband on it.

Either for me as well, but I think perhaps I lean towards Ander as he is such a student of the game, like moving Miki out from in front of goal to prevent possible sending off, and with the piss poor refereeing last year, that is always a consideration.
I feel like Ander sees more of the pitch and can do those little things that make a big difference, though as said, Tony damn sure would be a good choice as well.

Ander tips it for me if only because he's got a decent handle on the English language.

i'm definately good with both of them as captain. in terms of determination and spirit they both deserve it. but ander tips it for me aswell because of his english and the way he instructs his team mates on the pitch. mourinho apparently said that ander is one of the most intelligent players he ever worked with. ander as captain, tony v as vice captain or the other way around.

From what I have seen of Jose's personality, I think he has probably not allowed many players to free lance when he has set tactics.l A sign of great respect for Ander, and one I find very heartening. The kind of player that Bird was to basketball, great qualities, but it is the mental aspects of the game that put someone into that discussion for world class distinction. Ander is definitely one of my favorite players I've ever watched, and has been from that first time I saw him play against United. Was chuffed when he was announced as a signing, then pissed beyond redemption when he got jacked around by Moyes and LvG,
The kind of player that can literally will wins, and drive his teammates to trophies. He has basically been acting the part of Captain since he arrived, he's one of those pretty rare natural leaders.
**Edit/Add**
Another quality Ander has is his likability, United fans have loved his game and attitude since the kid arrived. (Majority anyhow, vast majoity) Come time for a bit of a boost, who better on the current squad than Ander to fly about amping his teamates, then turning and inciting the fans to get it up. That is going to be a common and well liked image(s) from many United matches.

Manchester United to offer new deal to Ander Herrera
By Conor Lairdon Tuesday, July 11, 2017 A report from Sport this afternoon claims that Premier League giants Manchester United are set to offer a new deal to midfield star Ander Herrera, with the club having warded off interest from Barcelona. Standout performer
Despite the arrivals of star names like Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Old Trafford last summer, it was Herrera who took home the prize for Manchester United Player of the Year in May, with his consistent excellence having been recognised by the club’s fans, who have become enamoured with the classy Spaniard in recent months. Camp Nou snub
A spell of serious interest on the part of Spanish giants Barcelona earlier this summer was not enough to turn the head of the former Athletic Bilbao star, who has declared publicly on numerous occasions that he is very happy in Manchester. Reward
As a result, the Red Devils are reportedly laying the groundwork for an improved contract for the 27-year-old, with Jose Mourinho and co. confident that their midfield metronome will put pen-to-paper and commit his long-term future to the club. www.101greatgoals.com/news/manchester-united-offer-new-deal-ander-herrera/

Ander Herrera: There is no offer from Barcelona Pablo Polo Los Ángeles 16/07/2017 10:44 CEST AFP En Español Though there have been suggestions to the contrary, Manchester United's Ander Herrera has denied any offer from Barcelona for his services. The midfielder addressed gathered media at a post-match press conference after the Red Devils had made light work of LA Galaxy in a 5-2 pre-season workout. "There is nothing certain about Barcelona because I am very happy at United and I feel valued and focused here," said the former Athletic Club player. He also articulated his frustration at the breakdown in negotiations for Spanish national teammate, Alvaro Morata. "Of course, I wanted to have Morata as a teammate, he was very close because the two clubs negotiated," he continued. "Too bad he is not with us but I wish him well." Real Madrid are United's rival on two occasions this summer; one in a friendly for the International Champions Cup and, especially, in the European Super Cup on August 8. "Madrid are the most powerful team of the moment," Herrera suggested. "They have won the last two Champions Leagues but a Super Cup final always motivates me. "I am just as motivated, of course, playing against Madrid and it's a good test for us. "Getting back into the Champions League was fundamental to the club because we are going to be one of the rivals to beat. "We are a strong team with a winning coach." www.marca.com/en/football/barcelona/2017/07/16/596b234dca4741d50b8b4618.html

Manchester United held talks with Ander Herrera's representatives in the US as they move closer to tying the Spain midfielder to a new long-term deal that would end any lingering hopes Barcelona have of prising him away from Old Trafford. Arturo Canales, Herrera's agent, was in America during the final week of United's 18-day tour of the country and met with the club's hierarchy to discuss the terms of an extension to the player's existing contract. Herrera, 27, has 12 months left to run on the deal he signed in June 2014 following his £28.8 million move from Athletic Bilbao, albeit with the option of a further year. Ernesto Valverde, the new Barcelona coach, is a keen admirer of Herrera and the Catalan giants have been linked with a move for the Spaniard. But Herrera sees his long-term future at Old Trafford and his eagerness to extend his contract is shared by United, for whom he has become an influential and highly popular member of manager Jose Mourinho's squad. Herrera endured a difficult second season at United under Louis Van Gaal and struggled for form and confidence. But he was revitalised by Mourinho last term, becoming the manager's first choice midfielder alongside Paul Pogba and playing a central role in the club winning the League Cup and Europa League. Herrera has also become a popular figure in the dressing room and among club staff and has been touted as a potential future captain. United arrived home on Thursday lunchtime from America, where they played games against LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona across five cities. Mourinho will now take his players to Oslo on Sunday for a game against Valerenga before they face Sampdoria in Dublin three days later in their final warm up match ahead of the European Super Cup final against Real Madrid in Skopje, Macedonia on Aug. 8. www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/07/28/manchester-united-move-tie-ander-herrera-new-long-term-deal/
