The Guardian running the Cabaye rumor as well. He's a decent enough player, but like others have pointed out, he's just not that good. He's 28, so almost no sell on value, and what you see now is what you're gonna get. He's not likely to suddenly improve any further at this age. He is better than what we have, but so are numerous players. Many of which are younger and better than Cabaye, so why settle for him? He'd improve us from a "Poor" midfield, to a "Decent" midfield. We don't need a decent midfield, we need a top class one. Lets spend 10 million extra and pick up a real top class midfielder, aged under 25, who can really move us up a couple of levels. Cababe would be a stop gap Ashley Young style signing. Agree with everything you're saying. But if we can't get anyone else it might be worth it to get Cabaye to push us into the top 4 this year. He would probably be better than he is at Newcastle considering the attacking talent he would have in front of him. Tough call. It wouldn't. We need to not only worry about this disaster of a season but the next one and the one after that. We get Cabaye as 'a stop-gap for the rest of this season', we're stuck with him for the next three seasons or we get rid of him and take a likely big loss on transfer fees.

However, the loss in transfer fees might be outweighed by the amount of money we would lose if we don't make the CL next year. I would definitely prefer someone else. Kroos could be had for the same amount of money, possibly.

In any case, Moyes has said he isn't interested in stop-gap players so we probably won't get Cabaye anyway.

I don't know what all the hate is towards Cabaye for. I think he is a very composed player. Runs Newcastles midfield with his passing and movement. He had a tiff about not getting his transfer to Arsenal but that doesn't make him a bad player. The problem really is that he's not the type of midfielder we need. Rooney looks more and more like he will become the quarterback of the team with his range of passing so Cabayes isn't needed. It's grit that we need, no elegance.
Man United, Arsenal and PSG aren't on his case for no reason.

word for word "For the last few years of moaning about 'city buying the league', utd have just spent 70million pounds on their last 2 players. Pot and Kettle." Ever so slight difference between the odd 70m spend in the space of 12 months and the 500m+ they have spent over the last few seasons. Wouldn't entertain arguing with the binlid scum anyway, I've deleted 3 ppl from facebook this week because they are making the place look untidy. Can't be doing with them polluting my internet space. Mind you I never knew they have a power supply in the dustbins, must be a new feature for them.

It's interesting the difference in Management style. Looking back it seems like Ferguson didn't nessecarily want the best players he wanted the players who would play and behave in the way he wanted. It worked but looking back it seems like we could have definetly signed more world class players.
I think Moyes will take the approach of being solid at the back and have flair players up front to do their own thing.

Wow -- seems like it was all Woodward and not Ferguson at all. Remember when people were slagging him for how he shook hands with the Chelsea brass after the game?

Bestie. What role does he play for Belgium? I must admit I have never seen him play for them. I think there is a very good player in him somewhere. Not sure where exactly he should play. My instinct says he should shield our defence. Speaking to the Everton dippers, they said it took quite some time for the tree to settle at Everton and that at times the team was set up around him, if thats the case I cant see us building the team around him, so he has to adapt or go. Oh and they did laugh at the price we paid for him, the cunts They're also laughing at us for taking their manager. That's just messed up!!!

The Guardian running the Cabaye rumor as well. Cababe would be a stop gap Ashley Young style signing. In a nutshell, yeah. Signing "better than we have, but not good enough to take us where we want to go" players like Young, Valencia, Cabaye, Fellaini will turn us into Liverpool faster than anything.

If we lose Rafa and Fabio I'll be gutted.
I'm astounded Fabio will only cost 1mil, considering the United-linked players at Cardiff and what we're giving them I wouldn't be surprised if we were making sure (if the time comes) we'd be able to secure Daehli.

They can't be serious about making Rooney captain.

Rumors (only rumors) that Kroos has rejected an initial contract extension at Bayern.
Can't see him leaving, he's been the most utilized midfielder there this season.
