With Mata joining this window has already been grand and a big step forward towards rebuilding process. I feel that after getting Mata, CM issue can now wait till the summer. Getting a LB should be a priority now, and if we manage to bring either Shaw or Coentrao before the end of the window, this will be one of the best winter transfer window club have ever had. It'd certainly rival Vidic and Evra capture few years back but the best thing will be and we'll be halfway through of squad rebuilding process already.

One bad signing is a sackable offense? Get real. Not ordinarily but given the circumstances yes, though I may be biased lol, having worked with our squad for two months he still considered TB, who he worked with for 5 years at Everton, £27.5M (our 4th most expensive signing) worth of improvement. Had he arrived with Fellaini and then found that he was our worst player I would have been more forgiving. He knew his stats inside out, he should have known all his capabilities and more importantly his limits. For me the transfer is inexcusable, at best it proves that DM s judgement is piss poor. I wouldnt trust him with any transfer "war chest", but then I wouldnt have given a guy who hasnt won an away game against the top 4 in 48 attempts and plays such negative, fear based Football the Manchester United job. Or, we panicked, paid over the odds for a proven Premier League midfielder, who had a midfield built round him, to come in and further paper over the cracks in our midfield. Some people need to give Fellaini a break. He wanted to come here, and put in a transfer request to make sure he did. That has to count for something.

Madrid are being dicks about Coentrao I believe. His wife is due to give birth soon too. Naturally, he doesn't want to uproot just before otr after a newborn baby. No matter how much money you have, moving a young family is stressful.

I agree with tatty. It was a panic buy which was forced after we failed in our deals with Fabregas and Herrera. If he was our first choice, we'd have got him by meeting his release clause which was lower then the actual fee we paid in the end.
I think Fellaini with time will be a decent player for us, not great. Injury and not settling in at big club factor has played a big part in him not getting up to the scratch. I'd reserve my judgment of him until till the end of next season.

Was Fellaini really proven at our level, in the role we need him for? A player wanting to come to Manchester United from Everton when no-one else was bidding deserves a modicum of respect but it isn't as if he's turned down big money from Everton to stay or from elsewhere.

He has been largely playing as a CM or DM before last season where he was deployed as a second striker. And has excelled in a midfield role.

A player wanting to come to Manchester United from Everton when no-one else was bidding deserves a modicum of respect but it isn't as if he's turned down big money from Everton to stay or from elsewhere. Well, yes, he was/is a proven Premier League footballer. He played in the league for 4/5 years before moving here. Arguing he's not United class is moot, as I didn't say he was or wasn't. You word skewerer. Second bit: What about Dwight Yorke? He handed in a transfer request at Aston fucking Villa. From what I recall no one else was in for him. And at the time, was thought we'd overpiad there too. So it's not like Fellaini is a one-off example. Although I agree with the sentiment, that it shouldn't have taken a transfer request to twist Everton's arm, when wecould've methis release clause. But that's a whole other arguement I don't want to get into.
