It's all try hard, poor excuses and no flair. Fantastic against crap opposition, lost for ideas and skill against better sides. England had a great chance when the class of 92 were around but the manager's were out of their depth. Now they have some old fart whose won nowt and never likely to be anything but average. I lost interest when they picked Revie over Clough, only Robson brought some respect. The FA is rotten to the core and will never change - too many snouts in the trough! Agree with everything here. A general trend with England ever since Hoddle really is the alarming gap in technical ability and basic skills that has opened up between them and the 'lesser' nations. One could argue they were always more gifted on the ball, but that England used to triumph through sheer brute physicality. Now they can't even do this. Chile a case in point. The arrogant press ignored the skills of Sanchez et al and England were taught a lesson in attacking football. It doesn't matter who comes together from where; the best players in the country regress alarmingly and forget the way they play for their clubs! England will not qualify from this group. Italy Uruguay 1-2. And of course it doesn't help they have mediocrity in their management directing them either.

Shouldn't matter how bad you are, I follow the welsh and were not great, its about being patriotic. Either way you are terrible, last night proved that. Just hope Jack Wheelchair gets knocked the fuck out. Wales aren't great, but England are terrible?? Wrong way round mate. Wales are joke in the World of football, Giggs and Bale aside. Leave the England bashing Paul. It's like a Leeds fan saying United are shit. Major rivals but not in the same boat. That's not england bashing, that fun starts on Saturday night I know were shit, my point was that no matter how shit you are you shouldn't stop supporting your country for that reason as was said above. Difference with Wales is we know we're shit so we don't need to pretend otherwise. P.S,- the Leeds fan comparison was a bit uncalled for, I do have feelings you know

They just want some excitement and progress. They're not pretending to be anything other than what they are. However, the problem is that every 2 or 4 years, a bunch of idiots who haven't watched an England game since the last tournament put flags on their car, buy 3 cases of Fosters for 21 quid from Tescos, put on a shirt with a picture of a bulldog pissing on a German flag on it and start mouthing off about England winning the thing. Then, when it falls apart and England get knocked out at the correct stage of the tournament for a team of their ability, the supposed fan burns his shirt, and shouts about how overpaid and disgraceful the players are because they can't win the World Cup literally every single time. Those people are the problem.

They are a problem.
Also the 'minority' of England supporters who boo United players in an England shirt.
Or string up effigies of United players when it was really England's blue-eyed boy who cost them a quarter-final result.
Or create petitions for United players not to go to the World Cup.
Or work for the FA and ban our players for 9 months after agreeing with the club to allow United to impose their own bans.
Or banning United players for 9 months when a more serious offence from a player from another club gets a fine.
The England supporters who have a superiority complex not only about the national team but about the standard of football at club level as well.
The England supporters who only really have any half-a-clue about the Premier League and are disgustingly smug even to lower levels of the English game. (Yes, this is based on a guy that I know. He scoffs at any level below Premier League/La Liga.)
Or Piers Morgan.

Also lets not pretend that every country is perfect. Every country has their fair share of idotic fans but unfortunately for us English the world media loves to point ours out every 4 years.

I'd say the majority of England fans know we have no hope of winning it. The whole "Fuck the English thinking they can win everything" attitude seems (to me) to stem from Euro '96 through to about 2010.
The thing is, England could have won a tournament during those years, the fans who thought it would happen weren't "deluded idiots".
The best chance was obviously Euro '96, when if Gazza's leg could have been a few inches longer he'd have scored the golden goal in the semi and I'm confident we'd have beaten the Czech's in the final.
The next few World Cups, England had one of the best 11's in the world, so why was it so stupid to think we could have actually won one? Seamen, Neville, Rio, Adams, Campbell, Cole, Beckham, Scholes, Gerrard, Hargreaves, Lampard, Owen, Rooney; they could have walked into pretty much any national team (certainly any squad in the world). If they could have actually performed as a team then the World Cup was waiting for them. Far shittier players than any of that lot have a winners medal (Lebouef and Guivarche from France, Matterazi from Italy, bloody Kleberson for Brazil).
For whatever reason England just haven't performed well when the pressure is on, but this notion that England fans are morons for actually thinking they stood a chance of winning something is just wrong. How many better full backs have there been over the last 15 years than Nev or Cole? How many better centre backs than Rio? Better midfielders than Scholes? Better box to box midfielders than Hargreaves? (Lets bite our lips and be honest here, Lampard and Gerrard were pretty bloody good in their peak as well, denying it makes us look bitter). Better wide midfielders than Beckham? Better all round forwards than (the young) Rooney? Better finishers than Owen?

It's the same in Aus as Paul was saying it is in Wales. Aus has no hope, everybody knows it so the fans will just be behind them no matter what. It's always easier that way. England has always had a problem with patriotism though. American & Australians are far more patriotic & really get behind their team wheras the English have a natural hatred for half their team because there is far more rivalry between cities & teams.

I'll go mental if Gerrard scores a 92nd minute winner in the semi's to put us in the final. After the game I would still call him every name under the sun but in the moment it happens it makes no odds who does what as long as it happens.

All this 'us' business from United supporters talking about England sits so uneasily with me it is unreal.
