Golfers - I am thinking of taking this up properly and have the opportunity to get some second hand Benross clubs from a mate who needs them sold. Read a few reviews and they seem to be decent starter/improver clubs, so here's my question - are they any good and do I need to be looking at anything in particular? Cheers lads. First, I want to say congratulations. You're taking up a great sport 😄 Benross clubs would be spot on for a newbie. My first ones were fucking Dunlops. Stay with them for a year or two and when you enjoy it and you're ready to step up, go for something better. |

My first clubs were from a second hand store in questionable shape 25 years ago. Still didn’t play much, but bought a new set of Cobras in 2004. Still didn’t play a whole lot until moving back to Florida in 2018 in a golf course community.
After getting the golfing bug, and a new commitment to taking the sport to another level, I used my Trump money to buy a set of Mavirk irons and driver. Best decision I could have made and has continued to drop my handicap.
The key is before you make that commitment you need to have your ball striking on a somewhat consistent pattern. Then get fitted for clubs at a professional shop, it will ensure that the clubs are tailored to you and your swing.

The Masters is turning interesting. Rory on the charge, but he's done what he usually does at Augusta. Struggles one of the early days and leaves it too late. Hopefully he gets a bit of luck. Scheffler should be winning it at this stage. He's a super player. Cameron Smith very good as well. Could still catch up.
I have an each way bet on Shane Lowry so hopefully it comes in.

So I’ve just started playing golf. My father in law convinced me TK give it a shot and took me to the driving range 2 weeks ago and then for a quick round with him and his mate.
I regret I didn’t start playing sooner.

I regret I didn’t start playing sooner. Yes! Always glad to hear someone starting. I used to laugh at the idea of playing golf but now it’s one of the best things in my life. Non golfers just don’t get it until they pick up a club and start hitting it well. |

So I’ve just started playing golf. My father in law convinced me TK give it a shot and took me to the driving range 2 weeks ago and then for a quick round with him and his mate.  I went for a driver fitting and had a chance to hit all the new 2023 clubs. Loved the new Ping G430 and the Callaway Paradym line up. I currently play the Callaway Mavrik and normally have a 228 yard drive with a 234 yard total. Ball speed 140mph and 3100 rpm and a club head speed of 95mph. The best fit for me was the Paradym X. A lower loft and spin, combined with a lower launch shaft. I was experiencing 250yard drives with 268 yard total. Ball speed about the same at 140mph, about the same club head speed at 94mph. But the ball spin was the big difference at 1900rpm. That lower launch and spin along with the Paradym technology added 30+ Yards. When the store is stocked that will be in my bag…can’t wait. |
