We let Shawcross go because we had Rio, Vidic, Jones and Pique. It was only a year later Pique said he wanted to go. I think if Fergie had known Pique was off earlier, we'd probs still have Shawcross. We didn't have Jones.. Jones only been here 2 years right? Shawcross went 2008 Good spot. Meant Evans.

Imagine if we'd kept Shawcross and Pique. We could experiment with 3 at the back then. Pique, Shawcross, Evans with Raf and Evra as wing backs supporting an anchorman midfielder, with a fluid front 3 behind a main striker.

There's defo quotes from Fergie saying how well Shawcross had come on and that he regretted letting him go due to Pique leaving, as you lads have said.
I'd have him back. He's a nasty fucker who is a suprisingly good player. And we have first refusal on him so it would be an easy transfer to conclude.

I have always like 3-5-2 with the 2 as wide wing backs. Don't see it often these days

As always, there will be a section of united fans who will scream against the signing of Shawcross.. im waiting for the "not world class, not united standard" labels for him. But was one of us... Signing Shawcross back be no different to Barca signing back one of there players

He's a good defender, and puts himself about, and is proper leader. Scores from set-pieces too.

There is a dearth of top rate centre halves out there that are realistic. Garay is good but lacks pace. Mangala is good but 35 million? The Roma guy is decent. Why weren't we in for Zouma if we knew this was coming? Not United quality? The amount of good players that we let pass by scratching our asses is mind boggling!!

Im waiting for that, YagYelka will be our nxt choice frm the clown To be fair, Moyes only wants the best players. He only went after Fellaini due to having unrealistic targets. He'd be more likely to go after Hummels than Jagielka. And when that fails, massively overpay for Jagielka on deadline day.

Shawcross is a great shout. Nobody is sure how much we have got in that warchest. Spend on mids, LB, LW and if there is money, go for Subotic or Hummels. Garay, Benatia are not world class, so I don't see the point in signing either of them.

He's a good defender, and puts himself about, and is proper leader. Scores from set-pieces too. Would be good to have a defender who actually attacks the ball as after Vidic, pretty much no one else does it, or not as well as needed anyway. Don't think Shawcross would be the answer though, good in the air but not at the quality needed in other areas. Get Subotic in if we want Vidic Mark II or Hummels if we want a ball playing CB.

Shawcross is alright, but I don't think it's out of order to say that I hope we replace our best defender ever with someone better than that.
For me this is the time to find out what we've got. Play Jones there for the rest of the season and see how he does.

Now that we know Vidic is going, I'd wish we go with JEvans -- Jones as much as possible with Smalling filling in for either depending. Let Fletch be the battler in midfield and build a back three ('Keeper and CB's) for the future from right now in our biggest matches.
I know, no chance.
