Good news for Wayne Rooney... It's great to finally see Rooney in the England arm band.
Now he can swim safely with the other kids.

Rooney is certainly under serious pressure at UTD now. We have world class alternatives that will hold key positions. Im not sure where Rooney now fits in. Before this window we just didn't have the quality to not use him. I have been debating our best 11 with friends and I cannot find a position for Rooney. If we go 3 up he will not get a start. If we play 3-5-2 he doesn't get a start. If we go 4-2-3-1 he doesn't start. I think Rooney is under more pressure than ever before to deliver. This time if he doesn't deliver it will be to detriment to his own career as opposed to UTD as we now have moved on. Previously when Rooney didn't fire he always knew he would be picked. This has now been swiftly removed and another fantastic example of how LVG has shaken this squad to its core. No more comfort zones.

This has now been swiftly removed and another fantastic example of how LVG has shaken this squad to its core. No more comfort zones. Me neither. I just cannot see a place to fit him in without sitting a better or at least more in form player. I have been as shocked as anyone at his work rate this season. Like someone previously said, even when he is not clicking or having a bad run of games, you could always count on him to put a shift in as a blind donkey running with it's ass on fire. Not this year, he just seems flat out disinterested. He has to recognize that at this point he has been given the arm band for the greatest club on earth which is a privledge few will ever have. He also has to realize that when he looks around the football landscape at the moment any move would be to far lesser quality than maybe two or three years ago. The other big teams are seemingly set. Even if he does go to a Real, chelski whatever, he will not be first choice and nobody will cover his wages. I sit him down for a few weeks give him some rest and let him work his fucking head out. That is the only method that seemingly nobody (except for SAF) has had the stones to do yet.

No place to fit Rooney in? Under serious pressure? Should do but not going to happen IMO.
Not debating what people are saying but LVG handing him armband tells you what the gaffer thinks in his opinion.
Rooney's probably a shoe in for either playing in the no.10 position behind RVP and Falcao, van Gaal could also withdraw him back into the midfield area in most games.
If LVG persists with Rooney which seems likely there's bugger all, me you or anyone else can do about it fellas.

Until Rooney proves he is bloody useless and he drops him, just like i hope Hodgson will do if he has the balls to drop the "irreplaceable rooney"

Thinking back to the tour, I was happy to see that it looked like Rooney was focused and playing his ass off. Seems to me that he played balls out right up till he got the arm band. Now he is playing what one "pundit" said was uninspired football. (IMO that would be somewhat complementary from what I have seen) There might well be some people that think this "get what you want, then piss on 'em" attitude would be a sign of "Lazy-itis". Up to now, LvG has shown quite a bit of patience as his players get familiar with his system, "They are playing hard and giving their all, I cannot ask for more than that" But I get the feeling that once his patience is worn thin, he'll do what he needs to do to field his best side. As so many have noted, that "best XI" doesn't include Rooney.

Would rather it be Fletcher, talking to ref reasonably as opposed to someone waving his arms an yelling at the whistleblower.

Can't see Fletcher getting as much game time now with Blind there so although UE would have made a good choice it would have been pointless.
Personally there isn't anybody in the squad that deserves it. If I was going to choose someone it would be Jones or De Gea.
2 players that have put the effort in, 2 players that are willing to fight for the cause. The only 2 players so far anything positive can be said about.

And both will perhaps not find a place in the Starting XI (bar injuries). Same fate for Rooney then?

Well if the stories are true then yeah it's a bullet dodged!...but it's always a shame when players of his calibre don't play for united.
