Here are some of the key developments from Fifa's decision to increase the World Cup to 48 nations for the 2026 tournament.
An initial stage of 16 groups of three teams will precede a knockout stage for the remaining 32 when the change is made for the 2026 tournament.
The sport's world governing body voted unanimously in favour of the change at a meeting in Zurich on Tuesday.
The number of tournament matches will rise to 80, from 64, but the eventual winners will still play only seven games.
The tournament will be completed within 32 days - a measure to appease powerful European clubs, who objected to reform because of a crowded international schedule.
The changes mark the first World Cup expansion since 1998

That FIFA team is a fucking joke. It's just yet another Barca/Real circlejerk with a couple of players from other teams thrown in for the sake of "diversity". It's no real surprise though to be honest; it's always been the way that FIFA teams of the year are just based on how glamourous your name is rather than anything to do with merit.
Also this World Cup decision is a piss-take too. Yeah let's just extend it to every single country in the world, fuck qualifying, just totally dilute it to be some huggy, inclusive love-in where everyone gets a trophy for taking part. Works perfectly for FIFA though; many more opportunities to hand it to corrupt countries with atrocious human rights records so they can rake in the dollars.
Honestly the entirety of FIFA needs to be dissolved completely.

Groups of three? FUCK RIGHT OFF.
Also, with this expansion, they've just killed South American qualifiers. There's only ten home nations. Unless they plan to bring us together with the North Americans, which is a no-no situation for both. Would make qualifiers easy and boring thus ruining the only reason I really like the international break.
But then, from the moment a footballing institution says Israel is a part of Europe and Australia is in Asia it should be reformed from the ground.

damn organization. FIFA is hurting the game, and I question if the game can grow in the US if that bunch of corrupt
