Short & sweet, been scouting him for ages, price is now realistic, exactly what we need & with huge potential (sell on value, to Real Madrid :-) ) - could happen. ------ sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/manchester-united-went-to-portugal-for-carvalho-club-will-sellManchester United have long been linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho. Last season the club scouted Sporting repeatedly and there must be reports piled high somewhere about how Carvalho was the club's best player by far. That's not just a David Moyes thing, Manchester United were interested when Sir Alex Ferguson was the manager and Carvalho was on loan at Cercle Brugge... he was scouted there too. A clue that the scouting wasn't solely for Marcos Rojo came on August 16th when Manchester United representatives travelled to Coimbra to watch Sporting play. Rojo was publicly pulled out of the match some time before and so he was never the target. That trip was almost certainly for Carvalho and the Portuguese press said so. The midfielder got two yellow cards and was sent off, not great news. However, at Sporting's next match Manchester United weren't among the official visitors, another clear sign it's Carvalho who is having the hefty reports done on him. On Wednesday evening the British press were almost in unison about Manchester United returning for Carvalho and that fits in with the above. The Independent were just one of several newspapers to cover it. On Wednesday morning, some hours before the British reports, Portuguese newspaper Record had said Manchester United were still interested and that Sporting would sell for €30m. Prior to the World Cup they had been sticking to the player's buyout clause of €45m, hoping he'd have a stormer and a queue of clubs would form. That didn't happen, Portugal were poor and Carvalho didn't shine. Another interesting aspect is his agent Jorges Mendes. His group Gestifute represent Carvalho and also Angel di Maria. Mendes has got deals done for Manchester United in the past and could be doing so again. A word of warning for Manchester United is that Record said on Wednesday that Arsenal were closest to materialising their interest in the player.

We bought Bebe for a reason.

I wouldn't be surprised if it emerged we actually just paid Mendes a flat 7 million and Bebe was just some poor sod who got flown in and signed up as a cover-up.

THAT tackle at 2:44!! Imagine same on Slippy G and Sturrige right in front of Kop..
Will be as disappointed if we miss out WC as I would be if we fail with Vidal. Sign him up Ed.

like i said its who wants it more we are in competition with real for 2 players and arsenal. we can likely outbid arsenal, real are the boggy team if they really want either of the players. alonso confirmed as leaving really might not be an issue as they will play illaramendi and khedera, the issue is if they get a tasty bid for either of those 2

Teams buy players that are barely players to get agents on their side. I'd love to know how many Mendes players we've had.

Really don't see why it has to be either/or, especially with Vidal's knee.
Why can't we stockpile with quality? You don't see City fans in uproar with adding Fernando to their already class midfield, Chelsea adding Fabregas to their attacking midfielders.
We need to start getting more than 1 Champions League quality player for each position.
