It didn't end well but cheers for everything. What a fucking player he was! This is sensational in fairness.

Unstoppable at his best. Undeniably effort and passion out on the pitch. I thought we would be on top of the football world for a lifetime when we had young Rooney and Ronaldo here. I remember after famous stomp incident in the WC I was sick to my stomach for days wondering if it was getting torn apart.

He was absolutely everything once. Never mind Pele, Rooney could genuinely have been the white original Ronaldo. Pace, power, touch, instinct, courage, drive. It's why it was so devastating when he threw it all away. An 'almost', not one of the unquestionable greatest.
Best of luck to him.
Thanks for giving us hope in 2005.
Thanks for Everton away in 2007.
Thanks for AC Milan 3-2, even though we lost the tie.
Thanks for the good memories. All of them.
We're done.

A top player but he could have been great. After that disasterous WC in South Africa, he was never quite the same animal for us.

I remember being on the drink with one of my close pals back in the UK, Sunday afternoon, and talking all about this 16 year old kid Everton have got. Both of us just raving about him, so young and so good.
Now he's retired and I feel old as fuck.
What a player; he lost the hunger, he peaked early, he tainted his legacy with his actions trying to engineer a move away. But, for a good few years he was magnificent. Put the team first, played left, right, up top, off the shoulder, anywhere he was asked. Work rate was phenomenal. Scored literally every single type of goal you could imagine, tap ins, screamers, chips, curlers, free kicks, penalties, volleys. Only thing he never really seemed to score was headers. Then Valencia arrived and suddenly he was the new Mark Hateley (little old school reference).
Because he struggled at World Cups and because he played for Man United, a lot of England fans will continue to slag him off. They need their heads examined, he was one of Englands greatest ever players, no question.

Rooney feels like the girl who broke your heart. You’ll always love them, and they’ll always be special. You’re happy it happened, but in the end, you knew that things hadn’t been good for a while and a split was for the best.
Saying that: some of his goals are the ones I’ve gooned too the most. Everton away in the 4-2. Milan at home. Villa at Wembley. Barca at Wembley. The header vs city and not forgetting that bicycle kick.
Got me some weird looks in a bar in Atlanta when he scored the goals vs West Ham in the game he got banned for swearing to the camera.

I’ve never been as excited about a signing as I was about Rooney. Watching him at Everton, but then especially at Euro 2004, I knew he was made for United. England weren’t that great at Euro 2004, however, but for his injury, England could’ve won it purely based on the individual performances of Rooney. He was fearless.
I can remember sitting all day in front of Sky Sports News when we were trying to sign him. Newcastle were in for him as well, I think Sir Bobby saw him as his new Gazza. They wouldn’t usually have had a chance up against us for a player but Rooney was a scouser and had supposedly said he’d never play for us. It was just amazing when we sealed the deal.
We had to wait a wee little while for his debut because of the foot injury, but when it came, it was electric. He was just born to play in red.
To say he never quite fulfilled his potential just goes to show how much potential he had, because he still grew to be a superb player. To do what he did without fully dedicating himself at the level of some of his peers from the time is remarkable really. And it told in the end. He lingered a little too long, the occasional glimpse of his peak still evident, but mostly a shell of himself.
But it doesn’t really matter now. He gave us too many wonderful moments to count and had a fantastic career. “Remember the name, Wayne Rooney!”.

To whom much is given, much will be required. Wayne Rooney: great player who squandered the chance to become legendary.

Everyone had a chance for their catharsis? Scored one of my favourite ever United goals (3-2 vs. AC Milan at Old Trafford, European Cup semi-final First Leg, 2007). Argued with me over the meaning of 'Salut/Salud'. Said I'd forgive his 2010 transfer request if he scored the winner in a European Cup final. I actually agreed we weren't showing enough ambition in the market (sign De Rossi FFS) but disagreed with his method of voicing it. Scored in a final but we didn't win. He tried. Fucked it all in 2013. There can only be this much sorrow when there's that much to regret. === === === === = It's about time. I remember you and I were both on the same page regarding ole Wayne, pretty early on in the decline. I would tune in to the match threads just to see if you beat me to the punch, sentimental times.

It really is saying something about how good Wayne should’ve been, given the player he has been. If he had Cristiano’s character, I’m pretty sure I know which one of them would be remembered as the better player.

Imagine if they sacked Ole and brought Rooney in as manager! It really wouldn't surprise me with these fuckers.
