The sad thing is, if another Rooney emerged now, there’s virtually no chance we’d make a serious attempt to sign him.

Was some player in the 00's and early 10'. Just never kicked on to that absolute top elite level and as has been suggested already, that wasn't for lack of ability. Was sensational that season after Ronaldo left and there were genuine conversations that Rooney would eventually reach that same level he and Messi were operating at. Infuriating player the longer he stayed but the dislike I had for him left me when he went back to Everton, like a weight had been lifted. He's still head and shoulders the best teenage footballer I've seen and one of the most exciting transfers the club made in my lifetime. Some of his goals are still my favourites. The volley against Newcastle always one of the first that comes to mind when I speak about my favourite United goals. Genuinely wish him well. To be fair, he's been excellent on the few instances I've seen him do punditry, speaks about the game very well and looks to have potential as a manager. Can't wait for the meltdown on here when he returns to manage us in a few years time.

One a a few 16 year olds with potential who actually reached that level and probably surpassed It, he had a proper winners mentality, something this club ja seriously lacked for a long long time, hopefully he does well as a manager.

My memory is pretty shit tbh, I do struggle remembering games, but I know exactly where I was, who I was with whilst watching that game against Newcastle. The match was pretty shit up until that moment. What a strike that was!

Rooney was unbelievably good when he came to us I remember it well, his last few years soured the memories though.

That tackle reminded me of Keane on Haaland

Haaland? Not a chance. He won't have anywhere close of a career that Rooney has had. He's superbly talented but he isn't anywhere near as talented as Rooney was when he came on the scene. Chalk it up to recency bias but we need to refresh our memories about Wazza. He had all the talent that Ronaldo and Messi had minus Ronaldo's ungodly determination and Messi's roids.

I may be wrong but I'll take a punt on it.

Everyone always goes on about how brilliant that is. All I can ever think is that it's rank stupidity. Just gifts Hull a free kick.
