Does everyone think RVP gave 100% for Moyes last season?
I think you know the answer to that question already bud RVP was pissed coz fergie left, but ask any arsenal fan "did RVP spend most of a last part of a season injured before a International Tournament?" you will find that to be Yes

Sorry Stringer, but one swallow does not make a summer.
Your missing the point on Rooney and i can see by your posts your obviously a Rooney fan. You have to remember alot of us here share the same opinion, even IF rooney went on and scored 80+ goals and we won the double. He would still be a over hyped over paid asshole.
He does not or should he get any plaudides, the past 3 years he has gotten worse and to back that up you can pick up any rag at the moment and most all say "he is past it" or he has "find form" only a matter of time before Sterling replaces him as the #10 for England
Article today i read compared Rooney to Owen & Fowler both played first team from the age of 17 like Rooney were and simply were burnt out by 30
That was just off the top of my head.
I'm not even a big Rooney fan. I think RVP and Falcao are better.
i just find the one-sidedness of these Rooney "discussions" rather frustrating and tiresome.
Think that a pretty fair article. I think people forget that even these super rich footballers are still humans. He has had a long career even at 28.
I think people need to get off his back. He had a long season last year, followed up with the World Cup. I don't think he should start at the moment and I think he will know himself that is performances haven't been up to it, but there's no use in just bashing him. Drop him to the bench now we can and just let him get his game back.
Fair play to Stringer for defending Rooney, whether anyone agrees with him or not it's good to have both sides of an argument presented.
Personally, I don't like Rooney and there's no question his performances have dropped from where they were a few years ago. Whether he can get back to those levels or not is debatable and we'll just have to sit and wait. Letting him go to Chelsea last season would absolutely have been best for all parties. Maybe his goals could even have won them the title, another "win" for United if they'd denied City.
His own performances last season? They weren't that bad, anyone can pull out 4 or 5 shit games and slate him for them, or 4 or 5 good games and praise him for them, and he certainly wasn't the worse player we had, or the only one that under performed, but at the end of the day, if you big yourself up, demand astronomical wages and want to be the big star, then you have to deliver. He's being judged differently from other players, and rightly so. A decent performance from Hernandez and a decent performance from Rooney won't get the same reaction from the fans. He can't get away with being decent, he needs to be very good, and superb, and win games single handedly, that's what is both expected and demanded of players on the money he's on.
I'd like to see him dropped, to see what his reaction is. If he sulks and strops then fuck him, for good. If he fights and shows real determination to get his place back, then fair enough, I'd be prepared to accept there might still be a role for him at United.
I agree with Dazjoe, it is great to have a healthy debate on this. Whilst I hold the opinions that Phil and Bestie have expressed brilliantly I can see Stringer's argument and it doesn't make him a Rooney supporter at all. If Rooney has been underperforming and generally awful then he has done so all by himself. I personally don't think the effect his presence and deterioration has or hasn't had on other players is relevant. My feelings on Kagawa are ambivalent at best and again I think he underwhelmed all by himself (apart from that great hat trick and other flashes). When we are talking about players being shunted out of position to accommodate others it us worth remembering here that this was what happened to Rooney to gain maximum effectiveness from Ronaldo. And he took his medicine perhaps to the long term detriment of his own form as we can see in how utterly rubbish he has been. This is a watershed for him. He will be dropped and the only thing saving him from this fate is the paucity of others around him. Once the team start to gel, if he us hindering that process we now have a manager who will not tolerate it.
I made those exact same points as carragher last week. He has a lot of miles on the clock and vetween injury and body composition I think each season going forward will see further gradual declines. He almost reminds me of How Gerrard is having to adjust his age now to combat his game now due to age and ailing body. Rooney seems to be at this stage at 28.
I don't subscribe to the miles on the clock debate. If he looked after himself and prepared his body to be a top athlete like oh I don't know... Ronaldo does... He shouldn't be declining. He and Ronaldo have both been regulars for club and country since they were 18.
Rooney started at 16 mate. I agree he hasn't looked after himself as much as Ronnie. But I have no doubt rooney's early start to his pro career is now taking its toll.

Oh I remember. And Ronaldo debuted at 17 and has one more major international tournament under his belt. That's neither here or there.

I can never get two posts in the same box, so I want to mention your RVP reference as well. I like your comments but:
I openly confess to disliking Rooney, whether as a Manc its inherent loathing for Scousers or simply his attitude toward the club - it could be debated. IMO this last season was not about the WC because Rooney doesn't play to that arena. His forte is PL mediocrity souped up with great stats against woeful sides and the odd goal against the top ten. His game plan was undermining Moyes, which he succeeded and presumed would place him in pole position during the next five years. He knew he couldn't play those Kind of games with Maureen or some other talented manager so he stayed. And, as a professional footballer with carte Blanche he played his hand well. Doubled his wealth, dangled Moyes and continued with his mediocrity. LVG was his unexpected downside.
I think RVP has declined woefully since Fergie left and I wonder if he needs a father/domineering figure to inspire him. RVP is a continental and across that football community they appreciate the WC more than English players. RVP also had to play for national pride against Spain. Many times last season I thought he was skiving from duties to save himself for Brazil. He sees himself as a rare commodity and tries to preserve himself for the great games so he can give his full impact. On the whole I don't mind that, I just disapprove of the dishonesty of his methods. Moyes tried to crack down on him but he was patently useless.
Together, PHC/RVP did a number on Moyes. They played him perfectly so RVP got the WC and THAT goal and Rooney as usual created one pass but got a great contract. LVG is a different manager and I guess this game has reached its climax. As captain the responsibility on Rooney is huge, failure will be big, and I don't think he has yet absorbed the ramifications if he fails. RVP knows he can no longer do it every game but will find a solution with LVG as they did in the WC. The Dutch clique will be very self protective, as will the Latin American - again this exposes Rooney out on a limb.
The lesson to be learned here is that neither RVP or PHC are larger than the club, but they have tested the waters. A large club needs a large squad simply to avoid slackers. I think LVG has changed his mind about a slimmed down squad because he now knows loyalties are different in the PL and they certainly aren't to squad and club. Safety in numbers will crack down on slackers and expose PHC's tardiness and RVP's reluctance.

I think the Falcao signing shows that LVG doesn't see Rooney as an out and out striker. I can see us playing 4-3-3 eventually, as I feel Louis was using the 3 centre halves as a means of forcing the Glazers to loosen the purse strings. This leaves Rooney fighting with Mata for the number ten role.
When we buy Strootman in January that leaves us with Carrick, Blind, Herrera and Strootman competing for two positions. No way Rooneys getting in there, so it'll be between himself and Mata. And it's a hard one to call but I feel his physicality will see him in the side more often than not. With a strong midfield behind him I think we'll see him getting back to somewhere near where we'd all like to see a 300k a week player. With better players around him I think he'll improve markedly.
Let's not forget we're stuck with him for at least another 2/3 years at least, no club is gonna pay the transfer fee and wages it's take to get him out of Old Trafford so let's hope I'm right!
