Shame how it turned out, but it makes no difference to us if we keep him or cancel his contract, gets paid either way and he ain't gonna play.

It's a shame - I love Ando but I just think he hasn't been used in his best position - I know he was bought as an attacking midfielder but IMO has all the attributes of a good defensive midfield destroyer - he can tackle, pass and has a great engine when fit - you just don't have any confidence in him doing something good in the attacking third any more
Maybe if he was used deeper when he came to the club he would be top class by now - probably way too late for him now

Why would we be paying someone to leave with our current injury record?

I never understood the situation with Anderson. He arrived with such promise and that huge price tag reflected that. The club and a lot of the fans genuinely thought they had got the next Ronaldinho, we'd seen all the amazing videos of his attacking talent at Porto.
He wasn't played in that attacking position at United though; Ferguson was determined to turn him into a battling box-to-box player. I think that was the first big mistake, it was almost as though he had the skill and excitement trained out of him. Then came the injuries, the endless battles with his fitness and never getting a run in the side, it just absolutely ruined his development. No-one seemed to know what his best position was or how he should play, leading him to often being a passenger on the pitch, not attacking but also not really defending either.
The guy has to leave, he's needed to leave for a number of years now. I'm sure there'd be plenty of clubs to take him on and I'm sure he would lower his wage demands rather than languish on the free transfer market. Whether he can maintain his notoriously awful fitness at another club remains to be seen though. At the moment he does nothing at our club other than drain wages, it's bad for us and bad for his career. We were all desperate for him to succeed but it hasn't worked, it stopped working years ago.

He was an incredibly exciting attacking midfielder when we signed him.

I don't say this often but I never really saw it with Ando. I saw it alright- on his rising girth! I agree with Bestie and Rorshach to an extent. He was a wonderful attacking talent from midfield at Porto, I think Fergie wanted to harness those qualities and add those of a box to box, hyper energetic central midfielder that we had not had since Keano. Now whilst he had some outstanding moments in such a role, most notably when he shat all over Fabregas, his development was hampered by Hargreaves's three year sicknote and his own injury problems. He often found himself as the saviour in a midfield that was otherwise anaemic and devoid of inspiration. His deteriorating attitude, especially towards hus fitness, didn't help at all. He looks a poor excuse for a footballer now and needs a clean break rather than a loan move.

Saw somewhere today that he's potentially off back home to play for a local club there.

Saw somewhere today that he's potentially off back home to play for a local club there. Yeah, he's talked about going 'home' to Gremio... I wish him luck as I've always liked him...sad it didn't work out and I wonder how much of that had to do with SAF trying to change him from an attacking midfielder to a box-box type...

I think it's mostly down to his injuries. Every time he started to shine another injury would set him back. Going back to Gremio is probably a good move for him.
Some of the best football I have seen us play was when Anderson was playing well. He started in midfield for us in both the 8-2 win over Arsenal and the 7-1 win over Blackburn, and we always looked like scoring when he was playing in his prime.
It's sad that it didn't work out for him, but it's probably for the best if he gets a transfer in January.

I reckon van Gaal could reabilitate him.

I reckon van Gaal could reabilitate him. Could do a lot worse than try... Surely the innate ability he has shown just needs to be nurtured and he may get some consistency...needs to stay away from the pies though...
