PSV Eindhoven boss Phillip Cocu has admitted Manchester United target Memphis Depay will be sold and "you can't stop that".
The Red Devils have been tracking the Holland international since last summer and boss Louis van Gaal remains a fan from their time working together in the national set-up.
The player ramped up the expectation levels on Thursday by using his Twitter account to favourite a link to a report about an imminent £20million offer from Old Trafford (which was reportedly deleted later on).
And Cocu has told Dutch magazine Helden that the club won't stand in the way of the 21-year-old, who has scored 19 goals in 28 games for PSV, despite his wide role.
Cocu admitted: "Of course Memphis will be sold, you can't stop that, but it's okay. It's great you can build up a player like him, who breaks through, succeeds at PSV then leaves the club when he's ready for a bigger step. That's great."

Well, this one is gathering pace and I guess requires a separate thread. Hope it doesnt drag like the Sneijder/Vidal sagas. Its Happening?

If LVG is really interested, then we will get him. Zaha was sold, I think Nani move will be made permanent, we have only Young, Valencia (dont know LVG rates him as a winger) and Di Maria as genuine wingers. So worth buying this guy.

I can see it happening and I imagine it would mean Nani not coming back, which in a way is a shame really as he's regularly spoken of his desire to play again for United and his form at Sporting has been wonderful. Then again the Portuguese league is comparatively very weak.
Signing an explosive winger like this would hopefully mean more of the 4-2-3-1 formation we've been seeing lately. However this doesn't mean the style of play would improve at all, which is concerning given a player like that will thrive on fast, incisive football, rather than the stifling, possession-obsessed bore-fest LvG wants.
I would wholeheartedly welcome his signing, I just hope that LvG properly utilises him. A little voice in my head keeps trying to reassure me that he's only played this dire style of football because he doesn't fully trust his midfield and defence, which he will (hopefully) fix this summer.
That said it could just be yet another Sneijder/Vidal/Fabregas situation where we get constantly linked for months, only for nothing to happen.

I agree with the bolded part and have said that before. But, again every manager doesnt get all he wants in every position. As for Depay, he seems to me, more like a Nani (modern winger) than a Beckham (traditional winger). Any which ways, bit of pace with quality on the ball is always welcome

I haven't looked at compilation videos of this guy, but from what I remember and what I've seen on reddit gifs he seems to love running at defenders, he can dribble at speed, he's got genuine pace and a ferocious shot.
Check, check, check and check.

I said it elsewhere but I'm sure LvG will turn him into a competent Centre Back.

I just don't want another Zaha situation
Depay is a selfish winger/forward. He's not going to track back. So we need to play him in his best position and not try and get him to convert into something he isn't.
He could be an asset here if we give him the freedom ala Ronny

He could be an asset here if we give him the freedom ala Ronny I rated Zaha - just don't think he was given a chance and would have eventually ended up as a good striker in the mould of Lukaku - all power and pace Depay is a winger and will be world class winger but if he came here he'll be turned into something other than a proper winger It amazes me the number of players who look great before we sign them and then we try and change them and not play to their strengths - ADM is the prime example

I think his stint on the wing will come to an end soon and he'll be playing through the middle as a striker. We need both.
30 million in the summer and I think this ones a done deal, mainly because of Louis

I absolutely love these kind of signings. We could either have the next Ronnie or the next Kleberson.
As much as everything points towards him joining us I won't be getting excited until he's stood next to a cock swinging Ed.
