The film True Grit with John Wayne as U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn was actually based on a true character called....... Henry Andrew "Heck" Thomas (January 3, 1850 – August 14, 1912) was a lawman on the American frontier, most notably in Oklahoma who brought in some of the toughest outlaws. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heck_Thomas

Next time a Yank asks what your favourite dinner is, tell them Faggots - they blush and get very confused. You enjoy eating bundles of sticks? Yes

Bloody Yanks bastardising our language At least we speak proper English ... and our grocery bags have fucking handles on They can put a man on the moon (allegedly) but still haven't sussed that shopping bags are easier to use with handles Who the fuck doesn't have handles on their grocery bags? I have never seen this heathen grocery bag you speak of. Every time you see someone buying stuff in films it's put in one of those brown bags that look like an upside down chef's hat which you clutch to your chest - Hollywood speaks the truth!

Shopping is hard enough without having to cope with no handles on your bags Talking of plastic bags - I remember using one to carry all my school books in and it would last a year - they were practically indestructible in the 70s Now the buggers are so thin they break before you get out to the car park

Supermarkets & shops have got too now put a minimum charge of 5p on every bag used. This is supposed to stop people using free plastic bags, filling them with rubbish and disposing of them (fly tipping) everywhere. Walked up the shop this morning down the back lane and seen some old table and chairs and an old sofa someone had fly tipped. I don't think they could have put them in a small fucking plastic bag lol.

If they made them thicker then people would re-use them - you can't re-use the bags they give you because they are either broken or extremely stretched to the limit after you take the food out The "bag for life" Sainsburys sold me lasted about 3 months and they refused to replace it

A plastic bag I got from Farmfoods 6 months ago, cost me 40p though, but I call it old faithful and I still use it. Its thick and durable. But the plastic bags they do nowadays like you said, are shite. They are so thin that when you put something into them they just rip. I have a back pack I use when I go shopping with old faithful tucked inside if needed and use that.

The big Asda bags are pretty good - I think it cost 10p about 2 or 3 years ago and still going German government has imposed a surcharge for anything plastic. 25 cents on a bottle and 10c on an ordinary film plastic bag. Plastic products can only be disposed of in Yellow plastic bags that can only be collected from a chemist or the state department. I guess someone has bagged a profit.
