09/08/2015 08:08, Report by Alex Urquhart-Cannon SHAW: WHY I CHANGED MY NUMBER
Luke Shaw has revealed why wanted to be Manchester United’s no.23 this season: a number he hopes to make his own for the rest of his playing days.
The full-back selected the same number while at Southampton and also wore it when representing England at the 2014 World Cup. It's also a number made famous in sport by Michael Jordan and David Beckham.
Once the youngster moved to Old Trafford shortly after England's exit from last year’s competition in Brazil, Shaw was elected United's new no.3 as the number he desired was already occupied.
The 20-year-old told MUTV before he wore the shirt against Tottenham: “I wanted to be 23 last season when I came but Tom Cleverley was already that number so I couldn’t take it. Obviously he’s left, so I thought I’d go back to my original number, 23.
“It’s where I started from. It’s the number I feel comfortable with and it’s probably the number that I want to carry on with until I finish my career.”
Marouane Fellaini is another Reds star who changed his squad number ahead of 2015/16, the Belgian deciding to be no.27 as Bastian Schweinsteiger takes up the no.31 shirt.
The thinking behind Fellaini’s choice stems from the fact that he wore 27 in his debut season for Standard Liege, the club where he made his senior breakthrough.
He looks like a proper player for us this year. Maybe last year when Luke strolled into our club there was so many distractions it took away from being the footballer we bought. But I gotta give it to LvG he drew the line in the sand and the kid came in ready to go, much success to him in the future...and please let's not have his contract run down....

I'm genuinely gutted for the lad. So glad the bone didn't break the skin. I fractured my femur just above the knee and I can safely say that I wouldn't wish the pain on anyone. The first three days were a blur, the muscles around it go into spasms and the pain is fucking intense. Morphine takes away some of the discomfort, but he will be feeling it.
Although I have no idea if that's the case so don't want to worry anyone
I thought that. Don't know if it is really a bad sign or just seems like one.
All reports were that it was a clean break, I talked to my little brother, (he is radiologist) he said that second surgeries were not unusual on a double break like that, and didn't mean bad news. Pics we saw it was still open on the bed anyhow, could well be they went in to put in some screws or plates and to make sure everything clean and set up, also could be something as simple as United wanted their specialist to take a look at it so that is why it wasn't stitched up and casted.
But I think that with all reports calling it clean break and calling for complete recovery that Luke will be back. Kids heal quicker too. One thing I do know, when he got hurt he was very arguably the best fullback in England and he will definitely get the best of care and they won't push to get him back at the end of the season, they want to keep him around for a long time. Those pics will go in Old Trafford trophy case next to other historic things that denote United legends!
Fair winds and calm seas Luke! You showed your quality and work ethic this season and all United fans are wanting to see you tear it up for a long time Future Captain!

cjjagzmoni: Pogba is a good lad minus the showboating..I think at Juventus he had Older players like Pirlo,Chiellini,Marchisio,Bonucci who shout and screams at him so he was more serious at Juve ,We dont have those type of leaders at United to caution him.
