That was a cruel way to go out. Very unlucky Scotland. Incredible effort. Done themselves proud.

Scotland done well only losing by 1 point. I think the Aussies won't find the Argentians an easy game.

Very, very unlucky Caaj. You should be proud.
People are mistaking New Zealand when they say 'Southern Hemisphere is vastly superior' It isn't. Wales and Scotland would have been deserving winners of their matches.

Mat when Barnett intercepted that ball I was celebrating myself lol. A performance like that deserves more than what you ended up with. Very unlucky mate but at least you can hold your heads up high. You pushed them more than we did and more than the English (lol) did. At least it took 15 men to beat you and not one

Unlucky Scotland. Ultimately the Southern Hemisphere officiating team did for them.

Australia 35-34 Scotland Gavin Hastings Former Scotland full-back on BBC Radio 5 live "If I see referee Craig Joubert again, I am going to tell him how disgusted I am. It was disgraceful that he ran straight off the pitch at the end like that. "The referee is not expected to make the right decision all the time. That's what the TMO system is in place for. This is the quarter-final of a Rugby World Cup. This is the highest end of our sport and they have to get these decisions right." Matt Dawson 2003 World Cup winner on BBC Radio 5 live "I just get frustrated when games are decided by such decisions. I wish Vern Cotter could come out and say I'm angry. I also want some accountability. I want a quote from Craig Joubert or from World Rugby to explain themselves. "The whole tournament has been incredible. I was hugging Gavin Hastings when Scotland scored a try. If that isn't an incredible moment, I don't know what is. There's no reason why the two semi-finals won't be great." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/rugby-union/33722111

Whybis Hastinys disgusted? Seems as though I missed sonething, did he mean the penalty at the end? Aye. He gave a penalty too the Aussies when he should have passed it onto TMO too let him have a look. Even the tv rugger pundits said it was not a penalty. Scotland suffered a devastating loss as Australia won a thrilling quarter-final with a controversial late penalty. In a pulsating eight-try match Mark Bennett's interception try with seven minutes to go seemed to have sealed one of the great World Cup upsets. But with time running out referee Craig Joubert called a deliberate offside when replays seemed to indicate the ball had come off a Wallaby player. Bernard Foley stroked over the three points to steal the game away. At the final whistle Joubert ran for the tunnel to a deafening chorus of boos, Scotland's players and vast support shattered by the cruel finale.www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/34550876

Didn't see Joubert run off though.

Rugby World Cup: TMO would have clarified penalty - Cotter 18 October 2015
Last updated at 19:01 Scotland head coach Vern Cotter says the penalty that saw Australia condemn his side to a World Cup quarter-final defeat should have been referred to the television match official.
Referee Craig Joubert penalised Scotland for deliberate offside in the last minute at Twickenham. World Rugby regulations only permit the TMO to rule on foul play, or whether tries or kicks at goal are legitimate. But Cotter said a TMO referral "would have taken away any doubt". At the final whistle, Joubert ran for the tunnel without shaking hands with the players, an action described by former Scotland full-back Gavin Hastings as "the worst thing I have seen on a rugby field in a very long time". Asked about the uproar among supporters and commentators, Cotter said: "I think there's going to be a lot of emotion over this game. "Everyone will have their opinion and we appreciate their support." Cotter praised his players for their effort in taking one of the tournament favourites to the wire. "First of all, I feel sorry for the group of players that have come off the field," he said. "They came very close, put in a great performance, so I feel for them and, when the emotion's gone, we'll sit back and analyse it. "They threw everything at it, absolutely. It was a brave performance; they showed courage, character and, most of all, they showed belief. They were going for it. "That'll get lodged into the hard drives and hopefully that'll prepare us for the next time we have to put the jersey on." Ex-Scotland stars angered by Joubert Former Scotland full-back Gavin Hastings: "If I see referee Craig Joubert again, I am going to tell him how disgusted I am. That is the worst thing I have seen on a rugby field in a very long time. He is not prepared to face up to the players. That is not rugby and that is not the spirit of rugby. "What he has done, he's done not only himself the greatest disservice but he's done rugby a great disservice. He should be sent home tomorrow, he should be punished and he should not be allowed to make an international refereeing commitment again." Former Scotland winger Kenny Logan: "The referee has a shocker. Referees shouldn't have a bad game when they've got a TMO. The yellow card was never a yellow card. It was never a penalty, it was a knock-on. "At the end of the game, he ran down the tunnel like a scared rabbit because he made a ridiculous decision and, for me, he's ruined a perfect game of rugby because his inept attitude to using the TMO. "The performance for me from the Scotland was different class going forward. I'm absolutely devastated for the boys." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/34566964

Wasn't Joubert the wanker who basically gave the All Blacks the last final? Worst ref performance I've ever seen.

Wasn't Joubert the wanker who basically gave the All Blacks the last final? Worst ref performance I've ever seen. Can't remember Stew but the game is over with now and we move on. One thing about Scotland under the coach Vern Cotter, he has got the Scots playing a lot better than they have been in the last 4 or 5 years. Looking forward too the six nations now coming up as I don't think Scotland will be a pushover like they were in the past. There are still a lot of unhappy Jocks up here in the clubs and pubs atm but all will be forgotten in the morning. Piss myself laughing if it ends up as a New Zealand v Argentina RWCF. The betting going around is it is going to be an Oceanic cup final between the All Black and Australia.
